Ridiculous, 9 inches of snow and still falling in Virginia
-
Manhattan BuckeyeI did not move to the South for this. Unlike Ohio there is zero infrastructure to deal with this. No salting, no plowing, nothing. This stuff will be on the streets all week.

I love Florida and do not miss that at all. BTW it's 75 degrees here right now. Stay warm and be safe driving.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: I did not move to the South for this. ptown_trojans_1Where in Va. are ya? I'm in DC and we have about an inch. I got a haircut today and it was an adventure. Plow trucks are now just getting to my street.
-
iclfan2Agreed with original poster. We have 5-6 here in the Piedmont Triad area (Greensboro and surrounding) and the road outside of my apt. in the downtown is still not plowed. I drove home on a main highway last night that wasn't cleared at all. Looks like I will not be leaving my house today and possibly not tomorrow. They will probably cancel schools on Monday.

Manhattan BuckeyeRichmond, believe it or not this might end up being worse than the December story. The airport is closed, the snow will turn to sleet tonight (low of 12 degrees) and my wife is trying to fly back from New Orleans. It sucks. And again, there is NO infrastructure, all plowing and shovelling is on the backs of the citizens of the Commonwealth. VDOT may take care of 64 and 95, but the streets in Richmond are a disaster.

ptown_trojans_1Richmond, yeah I saw they are getting hammered, best of luck.
I just talked to a friend of mine who is in Fredrick, Maryland visiting his girlfriend. He was saying the roads there are awful and they have 4 inches already. He also says where he lives in Va (Fairfax) and says the roads are usually awful and never plowed. He spun out 3 times in the December storm.
In DC, the metro is still running on time, so far, but all my plans have been canceled tonight. So, I'm snowed in. -

darbypitcher22I really don't consider Virginia the South....
but to each their own. Enjoy your 9'' and be happy you're not up around cleveland/Erie area during the winter time -
Manhattan BuckeyeIt depends on what part of Virginia, many people don't consider NOVA/DC area to be the south, just Washingtonians taking advantage of Virginia's superior public college system (UVA, William & Mary, James Madison, George Mason, VPI) compared to Maryland which has, well Maryland.
From what I understand the unofficial start of the "South" is around Fredericksburg on I-95. Richmond is definitely the south, heck it was the capital of the Confederate states. Within 3/4 of a mile from me are monuments of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis and Jeb Stuart. South of Richmond is REALLY the south. -
ManO'WarI notice a huge difference between northern West Virginia and Southern West Virginia. When I'm in Weirton is seems about the same as Pittsburgh, when I'm in Beckley it seems like I'm in Alabama.

Ernest would love to see your 9 inches.ernest_t_bass wrote: You got any pics?
I live in the same part of the world as iclfan and we got about the same amount of snow. G'boro is a town of about 250K+ and during the last snow storm they reported they had about 50 snowplows working. I thought that number was exceedingly low. -

All of these pics were taken a couple hours ago, we've got 2-4 more inches of snow since. -

Burlington huh? I've been looking at some decent houses on Craigslist around there. Real Estate is cheap down here. Unfortunately it'd be too long a commute to work. And yea, my apt overlooks downtown and I haven't heard a plow since noon. Still can't see the road and it stopped snowing around noon too.osu99 wrote:

osu99Yeah housing is cheap here and taxes are very low. We like the location and can to G'boro or Durham-Chapel Hill easily on 40.

gerb131Nice pics, looks like alot of fun.

SocietyWe got 6+ inches here in Hampton Roads and still snowing, a little. If this would have happened during the week it would have been interesting.

The home of dog killers. -
UA5straightin2008gotcha lol..you left out the great VMI
-
Manhattan BuckeyeVMI is a great school, my bad. Being in Lexington in the SW portion of the Commonwealth it can be easily forgotten. Good school. Tough school. Not sure I could make it there.
