  He was also Ray Kinsella's kidnap victim in the book Shoeless Joe, which became Field of Dreams. They had to invent a new character (Terrance Mann) when Salinger threatened a lawsuit.

  Hopefully this doesn't result in a movie being made for Catcher in the Rye. Great book, but I don't think it would translate well to a film, similar to The Great Gatsby.
