Piketon High School Southeast Ohio, Div IV in football, DIII in basketball.
1. Football- Avg gate $4,000 gross, minus expenses about $3,400 net times 5 games.
2. Volleyball- Avg gate $300 gross, minus expenses about $150 net times 9 games, we play an in season tourney away.
3. Cross Country both boys and girls is usually right at a wash or minimal net. We host 3 home meets a year, 2 small, 1 invitational. The invitational brings in about $2,500 with entry fees and gate receipts. Minus expenses officials, awards and about $1,300 net. This sometimes covers the expenses for entry fees for our team at other meets.
4. Soccer, no gate probably $1,200 loss with equipment bought per year and officials.
5. Golf, no gate probably $1,000 loss with equipment and entry fees.
6. Boys Basketball, Avg gate $1,100 minus expenses about $750 net times 9 home games, plus we participate in 3 tourneys that we get around $2,400 from.
7. Girls Basketball, Avg gate $300 minus expenses about $150.
8. Baseball/Softball no gates, probably about $3,500 for expenses for both including equipment and umpires.
9. Boys and Girls track, 3 home meets, 2 small, 1 invitational. $2,000 for entry fees and gate receipts for big meet, minus expenses about $700 which covers most of other schools entry fees.
This is not counting Jr High sports, but they mirror the high school in that football and both basketball plus volleyball come out a little ahead.
We operate slightly in the black when you throw in the cost for janitors and busing. We are tightening our belt, but the cost of uniforms have killed us lately! Some of our coaches will have to keep the unis a minimum of 5 years.
I'm trying to find information pertaining to how much revenue (on average) high school athletics create for schools; or ANY other information along that line. It doesn't have to be exactly what I expressed, it can be anything remotely close.
