Interpret These Lyrics

  • ernest_t_bass
From the Pink Floyd classic track, Another Brick in the Wall (part 2).

"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you
have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"

What do you think this means?

if a girl doesnt "eat her meat" then she wont get the "pudding" that comes from "the meat"
  • THE4RINGZ
    I second UA5.

    Quality advice for any woman.

If I had to guess, I'd say if you don't eat the meat then you're by God getting no pudding.

I think to allow better interpretation to these lyrics, you also have to take into account the rest of the song.

    "We don't need no education..."

If you don't do the work, then you don't get any results?

I interpret it as Floyd communicating to us, "We don't need education. We don't need you to tell us that we can't have our pudding. We want our pudding, and we don't want our meat."

The voice, to me, is the "man" bringing them down, the educator, trying to dictate everything they do. "We don't need no education!" They are sick and tired of everything in the "system" telling them what to do.

That didn't take long. I laughed, however, b/c I knew this would happen before I even started the thread.

So, nice original comeback, ytown. 15 internets to you. Your post has WIN written all over it. Well done. I applaud you.

Come on, CC. You're a Floyd fan. You know there is deep philosophical meaning behind their songs.
  • BRF
The meat and the pudding are all part of the same dish. So if you don't eat the meat, you can't have the pudding.

The English are weird and years behind us. And I don't like Pink Floyd.

CC... If you are interested, read "Pink Floyd and Philosophy." Some interesting takes on their music. After reading it, I see a lot of different meanings to their songs. Reason I started this thread was to see if anyone else would think that they are showing their disgust for the state, and people always telling them what they can and cannot do. They are human beings, capable of figuring things out for themselves, yet someone is always telling them what to do.

When I put down marijuana for the last time, I put down Pink Floyd's "The Wall". It is a bitch to watch without the aid of recreational pharmaceuticals. That being said, I say that one lyric to my children (who are 7 and 8 and do not do recreational pharmaceuticals). They just think its funny. I'll roll with that.

It's about authority. How others dictate what we can do and when we can do it......

Wow, there's really a book called Pink Floyd and philosophy????

You think so too? Yes, there IS a book called that. It's VERY interesting.

I could tell you all what it means, but that would be too easy.

Indulge in some good acid, listen again, then you will know.
