Bald Eagles

  • Scarlet_Buckeye
I was in the Toledo area yesterday and I saw 2 beautiful large bald eagles. They were both just sitting in a field (I assume looking/waiting for prey). Traffic was stopped and people were taking pictures and just observing. It was really neat. The one took off and soared very low over the field and had the most sweet wing span. This is now my second time for seeing bald eagles naturally in the wild and it's a thrill. In a world filled with bad news whenever you turn on the TV or open a paper, this is one small thrill in life.

Edit: This was in the Maumee (Fallen Timbers area) and, surprisingly, not right by the river. It was inland.

In Toledo one lives on the 11th or 12th hole of Ottawa Park Golf Course. Ive seen it multiple time.

One lives a couple hundred yards down from my cottage in Grayling, Michigan on the Au Sable river.

When I went to Alaska for a cruise....well lets just say you see close to 25 a day, and it never gets old. We saw a next close up and the mom had caught a fish and was bringing it back to the nest and we could see 5 heads sticking out of the top. Very cool.

When I lived in Sandusky, I lived in the apartments off of Perkins and Mall. There was a nest right behind the Old Dutch Tavern. Unfortunately, they moved right before we did.

There were bald eagle nests out around Pemberville a few years ago and if you drove down River Road you could occasionally see one or two flying over the road. Quite a majestic sight!

I live off an old golf course on old of the old lakes/ponds. There are a couple of eagles that come there to feed on the baby ducks! It can be pretty graphic watching them hunt down the ducks!

My parents live in Graytown and they have a nest in some woods real close by. It's in a big birch tree so the dark nest really stands out against the white of the bark. Beautiful creatures. I always stop and watch when I drive past.

I've seen a few up at Delaware State park, seems like there is a decent population there at the moment.

Really nice recovery there, can see Beavers and Otters from time to time there as well.

I was luckly enough to see two bald eagles in Ely, Mn. I was on a 10 day canoeing trip and within the first hour of the first day we say a seagull dive down to get a fish near the top of the water and on its way back up we got to see the Eagle snatch the seagull and fish out of the air. It ranks in the top 10 things I have ever seen live. Needless to say the rest of the trip I didn't see anything interesting until the last day when three wolves were about 20 yards away from me as i was portaging with my canoe. All i could think was that if they moved i was ducking down and holding the canoe on top of me for protection.

I've seen one in Ohio, one in Florida, and COUNTLESS up here in AK. The last time my boss was down in Unalaska (Dutch Harbor) visiting family, there was an eagle that would swoop down and steal their dog's toy, fly up to a phone poll, then drop it. The dog and eagle repeated this over and over.

I know there used to be one or two that lived on the Southern side of Grand Lake outside Celina. Bald Eagles are majestic birds, and I never tire of seeing them.
