Avatar set to pass Titanic this week for highest-grossing film?

Looks like Avatar is just $6 million shy of the worldwide record.

For USA and Canada, it looks like Avatar is approximately $38 million behind when inflation is factored in (please correct if I'm wrong on reading this):

That is cool, but I go more by that chart that adjusts for inflation.
  • pmoney25
Yea I agree with Mantooth. With Inflation figured in, Avatar is like 34. I think they should go by actual ticket numbers, not dollars.

Will catch Titanic in that for sure and should catch it as the highest grossing film in the US shortly as well.

Gone With the Wind sold 202,044,600 tickets.

At $8 a ticket(split the difference between matinee and late shows)....it would have made over 1.6 billion in the US alone.

Are they counting the 4$ extra they charge for 3D or not??

$4? Dang. I saw it twice and it was about $2 more each time.

Im not really sure how much extra it was. I bought all the tickets both times I saw it and people gave me money. I never did the math. Plus, I have no clue what a normal price is (not matinee).

i saw it twice, imax 3D was 12 and RealD 3D was 13, normal price being 9, which is RIDICULOUS!!!!

also, avatar should not have one golden globe for best film

It's no surprise with the extremely high cost of ticket prices these days. Should go by total number of tickets sold.
  • Ender Wiggin
$18.75 for the IMAX or 3D or whatver they are, out here.
  • hangonsloopy
I saw it twice in 3D for $11 each time.
  • BORIStheCrusher
Paid $15 to see it in 3D, ticket prices are getting out of hand.

Has anyone else heard the rumor about Titanic being rereleased to hang onto the #1 spot?
