MTV Negotiating with Jersey Shore Cast for Season 2

  • IggyPride00
Not surprising considering 4.8 million people tuned in for the season finale and it proved to be the networks most popular show in years.

It turns out the cast made only a few hundred dollars per episode in the first season, and want a big raise.

What I find interesting however is that they are taking the "Friends" approach to negotiations in that everyone comes back at the same rate per episode or no one comes back.

They are apparently looking for $10,000 per episode, and just rejected MTV's offer of 5K per.

They argue that if some of the Hill's stars (which drew less than half the ratings) are worth $100,000 per episode MTV pays them, that 10K is a bargain. From that perspective I am surprised they aren't asking for more, as they could probably easily get it. Jersey Shore is not like the Real World format where you can just stick new people in and hope that it doesn't miss a beat. I think this cast had a dynamic that made the show work.

I am sure they will work something out, it just sucks it will be a whole nother year before there is any more episodes.

No idea how this is going to be possible ... as I posted last week, I saw two cast members (Ronnie and Vinnie) in NYC, and the madhouse that ensued was mind-boggling. No way you can put this same exact cast down the shore again and have that same "reality" feel now that they are quasi-celebrities.

Bet the one chick is kicking herself in the ass for leaving.

    10K

The way this show has just spread like fire, MTV would be wise to take the 10K per episode.

I feel the same way, but they will figure something out to get them back on TV as all parties seem to want to make something work.

As the situation jokingly said 6 weeks ago before they really blew up, "it is like leaving the Beatles."

Now obviously that is taking it a little far, but I would be hating myself knowing how much those guys make doing personal appearances and such as well as what they will make for a season 2 if I were her.

If they tape this during the summer and tape it somewhere else (can't do the shore again) the histeria will have died down enough so that they will be able to function. They'll obviously still get attention but it won't be like it is now.

    $10k is ridiculously cheap

That's what I thought. When I saw what the people on the Hills were making I can't believe MTV didn't wet themselves with excitement the JS cast only wanted 10K. I know you're always trying to get things on the cheap, but the longer those kids have to think about it the higher their price goes I would think.

They should bring them back, but it won't be the same.

Im' still waiting on Skookin' For Love, or the T-shirts that say "Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a Snicka's"

SMH. I can usually understand most trends, even understanding the need to just watch stupid stuff sometimes...I've done it. I'll likely still do it. But this is one I just don't understand.

I know that cultural buffoonery can be ummmm....entertaining, to a point, but I could only watch about half of one episode, personally.

That said, people will eat it up no matter when it comes back, and I agree with whoever on here said that there's a good chance that it'll phase out The Real World, if it sticks around.

I think it'd still be possible. They've managed to keep crazy people away from stars of "The Hills" while filming for years. Although since they are in LA and people are used to seeing celebrities it may not be as difficult as it would to keep a thousand swarming Guido's away.

i bet they could easily find some other douche bags to focus the show around.

They're able to keep people away from the stars of "The Hills" because it's a scripted non-reality show. They shut down streets and fill clubs and restaurants with extras. That's why nobody is EVER approaching those people during the show.

Shows like The Jersey Shore and Real World...while not exactly "reality" shows...are more real than The Hills.

What if they moved locations to like Marthas Vineyard or something like that, do you think they would be as popular?
I gave the Jersey one a shot and it is funny but I want to hit myself everytime I get mesmerized by it.

Season 2: Jersey Shore goes to the Hamptons...
  • gerb131
    Exactly.
  • sherm03
I could see that being really funny gerb. The culture clash alone would be a good 3 or 4 episodes.
  • 2kool4skool
Yeah, I think the smart play is to put them somewhere other than the Shore. Malibu, Beverly Hills, places like that where people won't worship them. Watching The Situation and Pauly D try to pick up rich California cougars would be off the charts.

    How about sending them overseas?

Put them in Italy, and play the card about them going back to their roots.

I could see that being really really funny.

i have never watched the show, but i did see a few of them interviewed on talk shows. i thought it was kind of funny that one is from new york, another is from rhode island, and the one chick is from upstate new york.

that doesn't suprise me they're asking for that much. You could have seen it coming when the ratings blew up
  • This_DJ_3
I think at this point they're only asking for 10k because they're afraid if they go too high MTV will just say "no we'll just make some other group of schmuck's famous next year with a new cast"

That being said...i def want this cast back.
