Do/will you buy local products even if they cost more ?

  • HitsRus
    I do.
I'm always looking at where something is made. I always buy Hungry Jack products...made by Smuckers based in Orrville OH. JIF peanut butter is made by them also.
My next car will probably be a Honda (Marysville).

I try to buy USA whenever possible too.

Anybody else do this...or is price the only factor.
  • Con_Alma
Price is not the only factor for us. Value usually tops the list.

Sure you have to support your neighbor and your friends, and hope they do the same to you when it is time for them to purchase something.

I don't mind supporting local businesses, but they have to support the customers as well. If they cost twice as much, I'll buy somewhere else.

To answer what I think is your question, no, I don't shop Made In America only. Price is a factor for me.

There is a lot of food products made in Ohio, not just small companies either so slot of people do and not even know it
  • CenterBHSFan
    Sure.
Every spring/summer/fall I shop for my fruits/veggies from the local farmers markets and stockpile for the winter.
I shop alot at local boutiques instead of chain stores. (except for pants/jeans because I need talls)
I always go to local hardware/lumbar stores before Lowes, Home Depot, etc. Those places are secondary.

It's just how I grew up and some places are family traditions or family owned.

Locally-made might be a tiebreaker, but it's best value for the money for our purchase decisions.
  • mtrulz
    I guess.

Increasingly more so...ten years ago when I was just getting started and didn't have much money, I shopped based on price. Now I am more willing to stay local based on better quality and the fact that I have more money to shop with.

    Quality is my driving factor.
  • O-Trap
Typically, I will buy local over non-local IFF I know for a fact that they are striving for quality, and that they aren't gouging.

If a person can't know for sure that you're not taking advantage of your own neighborhood, why should the neighborhood buy from you?

    It's gotta be a two-way street.

    Nope.

Only thing I make sure to buy "local" is Honda. Supports the communities where I grew up. My wife used to work for an Amish guy, whose cow's milk went to Prairie Farms. We would buy that.

It's more of a tiebreaker for us. We look for value first, then locally made.
  • HitsRus
I'll agree with value, but I don't mind spending a little bit more if it's local.
  • 3reppom
Nope, origin of product has no impact at all on my buying decisions
  • I Wear Pants
If it is the same quality product I will buy it from wherever/whomever it is cheaper to buy from.

Always hit the produce stands in the summer and shop at Amish Oak and a candle store down here. I try to help out a little bit.

I'm all about the quality of a product.
