Best Job Search Engine?

  • Upper90
Online, naturally. Not for me, a friend of mine just moved here, and I told him that I'd help him scope for jobs online.

I'm really out of practice, as I haven't had to do this in a while, I jaunted over to Craigslist, as that's where I found my current job, and it looks like a mess of scams and etc.

So, what's solid? or at least as solid as it gets?

    Monster? Indeed?

I know they all have their pros/cons, I guess I'm just looking for some personal experiences.

I just went to Monster for the first time in a couple years. Looks like not much has changed, which is solid.

If he needs to hand in a resume personally..I just heard a good one today. :) There is a woman in Dover..they call her 'balloonatic'. She goes around wearing bikinis and has balloons tied onto her. A buddy of mine was trying to get into this place that's a really good job..but everyone applies there. So of course he wanted to stand out. So he called her up and come up with a plan. She went in on a Friday while the head honcho was in a meeting. The lady at the desk thought it was one of his coworkers playing a practical joke..so she let her in. She went into the conference room..in her bikini and balloons..and sang a song about wanting the job that she had made up. Handed my buddies resume to the head honcho. He got a kick out of it. Called my buddy up the following Monday and hired him on the spot.

just saw an ad on t.v. for theladders.com

but it said it is only for 100k+ jobs for 100k+ talent

not sure if your friend falls into that category or not

is he looking for a specific type of job?

Not that I know of, he's got a degree in Accounting, and I believe one in Marketing. He was working for a different branch of the Non Profit that I work for, but then that branch closed, and he moved (back) here, where he's originally from.

If I'm not mistaken, most of his experience is administrative/accounting. Not sure if that's the direction he wants to stay in.

well then besides job search websites, if he has any ideas of who he wants to work for, he can check out that company's website for employment information.

If he wants to stay in the non-profit sector, he should try idealist.org.

monster if you're searching, never put a resume on there.

    how come?

    Me?

    yeah

oh well, I put mine on there not really looking for a job, but just to remind myself to keep it up to date (which as I'm typing I realize I haven't looked at it in almost 2 years) and I literally got 20+ calls a day about jobs that I was in no way qualified for (meaning they wanted someone with 10 years experience, and my resume clearly said that I started my job 4 months ago) and 5 -10 jobs that weren't even in my field.

    Edit:

My point is that I think it's more of a nuisance to put a resume on and let the recruiters or whatever use that site than to find the job you like on there and then send your resume discretely.

All of this is great info, guys, I appreciate it a lot, and I've passed it on.

And I forgot all about idealist.org, websurfin. Good call, I found a job that I interviewed for on there a while back, but decided to stay where I was at.
