Underappreciated Musicians

  • Tinkertrain
What say ye freehuddle? Who do you think is never given the credit they really deserve in the music world?

My vote goes to Brian Wilson of the the beach boy's. The harmonies this man created are just incredible. Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums ever created with such incredible and complex harmonies that it's really hard to believe. Most people think of Brian Wilson as the guy who sat in a sandbox but the music he created is phenominal!

Runner up vote goes to Syd Barret

Was just listening to Grindin about an hour ago.
The beat in Grindin is awesome. I'd also recommend giving this a shot if you haven't heard it before.

    Rush.... and Me!

    Warren Zevon

With the amount of great songs he wrote, it's criminal that he doesn't get any recognition for anything other than Werewolves of London.

Local band that i think is pretty kickass but has never hit it big
  • Timber
    Southern Rock band... The Outlaws

Some great guitar work and great songs:

Green grass and high tides forever (9 minutes and 46 seconds.. just think FM used to play songs that were that long... before cash became King)
    Hurry Sundown
    Holiday
    There goes another love song
    Ghost Riders in the sky
  • I Wear Pants
    Kevin Devine

Elliott Smith could never get the amount of appreciation he deserves.

The rock band known simply as "HURT"

    They're friggin' awesome.

Sadly, they've always been broke musicians despite have 3 or 4 songs make the radio. Financially, I don't think they'll be able to keep it going much longer. The fan base that they do have is very, very loyal though. The singer, J.Loren, actually left a very lucrative career working for the government to pursue his music.

    J. Loren's voice is epic. I'll never forget their set at Rock On The Range last year. Breath taking.

I assume you mean Ringo Starr. And honestly, the Beatles would have been the Beatles with or without Ringo, IMO.

    and Goerge.
Yes. Lennon and McCartney were the Beatles. But I think George was a much better musician than Ringo.

    The Dead MIlkmen

As a metalhead, I'd put Peter Tagtgren at the front of the list.

Main dude behind Hypocrisy, which is one of the greatest Euro-death groups. Also's the main dude behind Pain, which (at least in Sweden) is a hugely popular industrial-rock group. Has been in other groups and guested on many albums AND is a very prolific producer in the Scandinavian region.

I have much respect for all he's done for metal music.

    George Harrison all the way.

Wrote some of my favorite Beatles songs:

    Here comes the sun
    While My Guitar Gently Weeps
    Something
    Think For Yourself
Do you want to know a secret?
  • O-Trap
    Musiq Soulchild

The guy is a FANTASTIC vocalist, but he is rarely mentioned.
  • Red_Skin_Pride
    Ronnie Milsap. Hands down.

And Stevie Wonder. Honestly, most people know about 4-5 of his songs, but the man has done more for contemporary music than 90% of the musicians out there today.
