3D tv....fad or here to stay?

I figure everyone has heard the gossip about the 3D tvs being released this summer. I figure they will be expensive, but just like everything else in electronics....the prices will drop and be affordable in a couple of years.
If you have your choice between a top of the line LED(LCD) or these new 3D tvs, which would you choose?
Or is this 3D thing a fad?

Interesting note in this article....PS3 is the only current bluray player that will support 3D tv. -
raiderbuckI don't know, I think it has a purpose maybe in theaters but for regular TV watching I would grow tired of it. For me, it's more of a novelty, whereas LCD/LED TVs are the way of the future in even standard TV watching.
Although, I did try the 3D TV at Sony Style in Easton...it was a nice set up. Oh...and Sony XBR 10 FTMFW! -

Although there have been other movies done with the recent 3D tech, I think Avatar is the springboard for this whole movement. Out of everything that I have seen about the 3D stuff, the coolest thing was this....

Basically, you can preview the channel you want to turn to on your remote without turning the channel...lol. Neat little toy. -

Gee..just what we need..to see Jackass in 3D..do we really need to have there wangs pop out at us? I mean..some on here might enjoy that..and there's nothing wrong with that. But is it really necessary????? -

The thing about 3D is that it isn't actually 3D, it's really just multi-layered 2D. It only creates an illusion of depth. If they invent true 3D then everything would be in 3D. As far as the 3D TV thing goes, if you have to ear glasses to watch it, then it will be a fad. If it doesn't require glasses and the picture quality is HD, then I think it will be the next big thing. -

The glasses are my issue with it also. TV's where about I thought they'd be, starting at about 2000 and up.As I've been warning for months now, these active-shutter 3D glasses won't come cheap, and indeed ... as CNET reports, Samsung will be charging $150 a pair for them. In other words, if you've got a family of four who wants to watch "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" on your new Samsung 3D TV, well ... that'll be $600, please. (And I wouldn't count on Samsung's competitors charging much less.)
Finally, let's not forget that you will, in fact, need a new 3D Blu-ray player (or a PlayStation 3, once the promised software update from Sony arrives) to watch upcoming 3D Blu-ray discs ... which won't be coming out until later this year. -
