Probably not. The average voter in the rest of the state doesn't care enough about what goes on outside of their 20 mile "box" and will probably think this is a ballot measure to get a SECOND casino in Columbus. -

Speaking of City Center - that is where this casino should have gone in the first place.Tiernan wrote: New acronym ITYS (I told ya so) when this lame brain idea blows up in their faces. It will take 10 yrs but this piece of crap casino will be vacant just like City Center turned out. -

Yes, everyone knows that, but Columbus wasn't about to give up stimulus money for a casino.purple_rein wrote:

I have a hard time believing anything is going to kill Easton...the others maybe (doubtful). I highly doubt nicer malls/shopping/dining complexes are going to be built that will kill Easton or Polaris - and you yourself saying they're going to be farther outside of Columbus just makes no sense...why would people in the city drive past Easton or Polaris to go to a similar type center farther away? Or are you saying that the majority of the visitors to Easton and Polaris come from outside the city and that if they build new ones outside the 270 belt that Easton and Polaris wont be able to sustain the loss of traffic?LJ wrote:

I think the Casino will do well. I'm happy it's not near the Arena District, as I live pretty close to the District (And plan to for some time), and the construction traffic, and just craziness in general would start to annoy, I think. I bet you would have said the same thing in 1988 about Northland, Eastland, Westland, and City Center. With the coming of Tuttle, Polaris and Easton putting those malls completely out of their misery, I don;t see why you think it's impossible.derek bomar wrote:

because Tuttle, Polaris, and Easton are still relatively close to Columbus (270)...Johnstown, West Jeff...those aren't really that close. And I don't see how much you could improve on Easton or Polaris...the directional Malls obviously needed an upgrade, which is what Tuttle, Easton, and Polaris were...but what would you upgrade on those locations? I don't think you are understanding growth patterns in Columbus. In 20 years the "not new thing" could very well be in these places. But your thinking is exactly how the northland area chamber of commerce thought in 1988. That turned out well for them.derek bomar wrote:

I just find it hilarious you are saying the same things the Northland Chamber said years ago. My dad was one of the largest land owners in the Northland area and was heavily involved in the chamber of commerce there. To this day he talks about the extreme hubris that many members had and how they just laughed off the idea of malls outside of 270. To have the arrogance to say history won't repeat itself is absolutely asininederek bomar wrote:

what I find funny is that you think there will be some revolutionary new way of putting together a mall that people want to shop at that currently doesn't exist with Easton or Polaris or even Tuttle, and that said mall will make people want to bypass what already are some of the greatest shopping centers in the counry and drive to West Jeff or Johnstown to do so...Call it whatever you want, but there is a big difference in terms of what the directional malls were lacking and what Easton or Polaris lacks. And both Easton and Polaris are close enough to Columbus that the travel isn't a factor.LJ wrote:

LJAlso, I don't know why you are making things up either? I never said anything about a "revolutionary new way of putting together a mall".
My point is in 20 years Polaris will be 29 years old and the growth in Columbus will be headed outside of 270 even further. It's the way Columbus is set up to grow. There is a reason there has been talk for a future need of an outer-outerbelt for 20 some years now. Delaware, West Jeff, Johnstown, Pataskala, Canal, etc. -

Say in 20 years the growth in the burbs has pushed out to West Jeff and Johnstown (or close to them) and another center is built...so you're telling me all of those people that aren't there now will go to the new one, and that the people that currently go to Easton or Polaris will go to the new ones in such a large # that the old malls will die?
