  No, it is not too high. There is a reason why US News named Gordon Gee the best university President. Gee is all about transforming OSU into the leading driver of thought, engineering, economics, science and technology for the state of Ohio, and developing home grown talent that will stay in the state.
  
  Over the past decade OSU has really transformed into the best public institution in the state of Ohio, surpassing Miami. Gee is taking what Holbrooke left and really expanding it.
  
  I say pay him what he needs to get the job done.

  I don't have a link, but I'm pretty sure he is a great fund raiser as well. I think he brings in significantly more than $1.6 million/year.

  Considering there are over 60,000 students between all of the campuses, I don't think 26 dollars per student is a very big deal.

  I really like Gordon Gee, and had the chance to meet him several time while at OSU in the 90s. He would eat lunch with the students on occasion, going from dorm to dorm to hang out (I remember the dish of the day was Chicken "Gordon" Blue, ughh). When I wrote for the Lantern, he would pop in and say hello quite frequently. My favorite moment was when he and a bunch of suits saw my buddies and I lumbering through campus, when he stopped us and said "where you going fellas?" ... my response: "Beer run." He just gave me an awkward smile and moved along haha

  Well it's definitely not taking a toll on tuition, as many students are denied entry every year.

  And for the comment on the football coaches, you should figure out how much money they generate before criticizing their pay. OSU doesn't have the payroll expense of many other top colleges such as SEC schools who pay their coordinators nearly $1 million when the OSU coordinators are making around $200,000 I believe.

  Gee is arguably the greatest college president of all-time. 1.6 too much? 1.6 too little, and you can take that to the bank.

  Gee is a great President who gets along with both faculty and students. Ask many college professors and students who their president is or if they think he is doing a good job. At most universitys some students will not even know who their president is and most faculty will be unhappy with them. At Ohio State students love him and see him while the faculty is usually in favor of his actions. He has also been a big piece of the community of Columbus.
  
  I went to Ohio University and can tell you that 30% of students didnt care who are president was, 30% never saw out president while they were there unless it was at graduation, or freshmen opening activities and the other 40% were involved in something wherethey met with him and knew who he was. The faculty at Ohio University hated the president for the most part because he ran it like a business (ie. giving more money to schools who got better ratings) As for the community part i don't think while i was there he ever really had a good bond with the city of Athens.
  
  Columbus and Ohio State should be happy to have Gordon and do everything there is to keep him. By the way the average university president makes about 375,000 is Ohio each year. (Before bonuses) Gee before bonuses makes about 775,000 (1.6 after this year). He also donated last year around 321,000 to a schloarship fund within the university. While Gee is the top public University in terms of salary there are plenty of private universitys who pay their presidents over a mil each year,

  Gordon Gee deserves 1.6 billion considering what a fucking boss hog outlaw he is.

  It's not overpaid. Hell, Ashland University's president Fred Finks gets paid $800,000 (I think that's what they said) which works out to around $125 per student. OSU obviously has more students but it's clear that he isn't being overpaid and with how well OSU is doing, academically and athletically, he may be underpaid.
