Money Vs. Happiness

Your level of "Happiness" isn't determined by how much money you make. If it is then you will never be truly happy.

I disagree. While Mortal Kombat is a great game, I think Donkey Kong was the greatest game ever.

    Exactly.

Up to a certain point, money is very strongly correlated with happiness. Beyond that point, it's probably better to take the paycut to have more time. The exact point for you and your family probably depends on your expectations and community.

Question is Take New Job and be happier or Keep current job and make more money. Granted 10k is not a huge amount of difference but almost $1000 a month loss is not that easy to give up.
What did you decide to do?

I may take less money to be away from home more :)

    Just kidding.

Well I was able to negotiate a bit and it seems that with some other bonus options I could break even.

One thing that will be different is I currently get monthly commissions/bonuses along with salary. New job I will get 4 smaller quarterly bonuses then one giant yearly bonuses along with salary. Salary portion much better with new company.so we will definitely change our budgeting process a bit.

But I accepted new job. Will be exciting going into new field but I know I'm making right decision.

I thought you said your job was secure? That's right...

My release wasn't a result of one of "those Internet companies" folding (as your statement at the time would have indicated).

Also, I had gotten word form the CEO that my job was safe at the time (which it was ... at the time).

But hey, since you're in the mood to kick me when I'm down, my car just died. What can you do with that?

Regardless of how much I was making, I could never justify giving up a thousand a month. That's just taking money out of my retirement.

    Don't mind Society.

Oh I'm good with Society. After all, it's nice to be noticed by such a celebrity as the man who finished runner-up as the Most Annoying Huddler. :D

Since my work experience has been over 40 years as a classroom teacher and coach, it better be happiness, because it certainly wasn't for the money. Although, I must tell you that when you reach the 40 year level, the money isn't too bad. (If you still have your health and a semblance of sanity.)
