NateSomeone had something about this on their FB status. I was intrigued.
-
NateIs there a show for this somewhere? I want to DVR it! Looks awesome. I don't feel sorry for the little boat at all. They were asking for it.
-
Fab1bI love the show but frankly I hate both sides. I hate the killing of whales but I hate the stupid Sea Shepherds and their dumb tatics as well!!
-
gorocks99I hope Batman's all right.

Fab1b
Its on Animal Planet, they have done 2 seasons so far. Not sure when season 3 starts. Also South Park did a great spoof of Whale Wars as well!Keebler wrote: Is there a show for this somewhere? I want to DVR it! Looks awesome. I don't feel sorry for the little boat at all. They were asking for it. -

Manhattan BuckeyeThe captain is so unintentionally hilarious, SP did a great job with the parody.
It's hard to dislike the Sea Shepherd people, they seem so sincere yet are so clueless, they really do some dangerous and completely ineffective 'attacks'. -
NateIs there actually a lot of this type of stuff in the show?
-
se-alumI love the show, and root for the Japanese to sink the Sea Shepherds ship! Last season the Japanese started killing whales right in front of the Sea Shepherds, it was great!!
-
Fab1b
Usually it consists of the Japanese outsmarting the Sea Shepherds. The SS usually try to attack the Japanese boats by throwing stink bombs at them or sending out small boats to try to put ropes in their propellers to stop the ships. The Japanese have responded by putting up nets so the stink bombs can't be thrown over their sides and throwing nuts, bolts and things back. Last season there were a few collisions and when the season ended some of the Sea Shepherds were possibly facing charges for ramming a whaling ship. At the end of most episodes the SS end up looking like idiots and the Japanese have killed a bunch of whales.Keebler wrote: Is there actually a lot of this type of stuff in the show? -
NateWhat do they use the whales for?
-
Fab1bFood mostly also oils, textiles, etc....
-
Glory DaysSo the Sea Shepard people are saying their speedboat, that was built to set records....couldnt get out of the way of the whaling ship....my ass.
-
Fab1bThey slowed on purpose you can clearly see that in the video, they were hoping for that collision!

Not ineffective at all. While it may seem that way the Sea Shepherd is saving hundreds of whales every year. Every second the Japanese spend chasing the Steve Irwin is time they aren't whaling.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: The captain is so unintentionally hilarious, SP did a great job with the parody.

I was excited for this season because I heard another rich donor was going to go with Paul in a second ship but it looks like that won't happen.
Watson isn't afraid to do what is needed. He has sunk a few ships already and I can't wait until he rams and sinks a Japanese ship. -
NateIf they really wanted one to sink, shouldn't they just buy a few RPG's?
-
Fab1bI just want to see an all out war between the two sides!!
-
gorocks99I just want more whale in our restaurants. Is that too much to ask?
-
Fab1bNot gonna lie though I would try it if it was available!

Watson is trying to use the media to win the battle. He has widespread support across many countries (except the disgusting Japanese of course) from this show. The problem is the Australian government is in a bind because the people want to stop the whaling but they don't want to hurt relations with Japan. -
NateWhat's so bad about whaling that they shouldn't be doing it? Is there a small amount of whales in the world?

LOL than why do the crazy stuff? I would dare anyone to watch the episode where the 'build up' was the attempt to throw a stinkbomb on the whaling vessel deck, notwithstanding that it is probably a good 60 feet above the water, failed miserably - and not laugh your ass off.
There is a term for the sea shepherds - useful idiots. Especially the captain. -

Yes. There is an Treaty in the Southern Ocean that doesn't allow people to kill minke and fin whales unless its for scientific purposes. In 2005 the Japanese killed over 900 for "scientific" purposes.Keebler wrote: What's so bad about whaling that they shouldn't be doing it? Is there a small amount of whales in the world?
I don't understand your point. Before the Japanese put up the nets throwing the stink bombs on the deck was extremely effective.Manhattan Buckeye wrote: "Not ineffective at all. While it may seem that way the Sea Shepherd is saving hundreds of whales every year. "

Either way, they are saving an estimated 300-400 whales a year. I'd hardly call that ineffective.
The Steve Irwin is one ship going against 3. They have limited means available to them since they are under the Dutch flag. What else do you want them to do?
