Favorite Coffee (To Brew)

  • ernest_t_bass
What is the best coffee to brew at home?

I am currently drinking some Dunkin' Donuts coffee that we bought last night. We've bought Starbucks, Folgers, Maxwell House, etc.

What is your favorite coffee, TO BREW AT HOME?

I pick up a 10oz brick of espresso from the grocery store, I don't know the brand because I cannot pronounce it, LOL. Its yellow with black writing but its like 2 bucks.

A side note to the Dunkin' Donuts coffee. It seems to be acting like a laxative... more than any other coffee I've ever brewed... Well, besides that 100% pure Dominican coffee.

We have a Keurig single cup coffee maker...top notch consistent flavor time after time after time...in a wide variety of flavors and strengths.

If we brew a pot, Seattle's Best is more of a family favorite that starbucks anymore. Dunkin donuts is good too, but it is overpriced.

I like this best but it's now not carried in my area...

Before that it was Maxwell house Columbian Supreme, then it wasn't available....

Now it's Maxwell House Dark Roast

Maxwell House at my house. Around Thanksgiving...Speedway comes out with the 'Pumpkin Pie' stuff you can buy and brew at home. It's quite delicious as well.

Folgers Black Silk....If you like a dark, woody brew without the bitterness you can't go wrong.

Maxwell House is our brewed coffee of choice. Master Blend is our favorite of the Maxwell House choices.

My uncle made his own mixture by using the following mix:

    4 scoops of maxwell
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    Big pinch of parsley
    Little pinch of tyne
    Sprinkle of nutmeg "optional"
    MAKES 1 POT OF COFFEE.

He would sometimes use carbonated water instead of faucet water because he said it made the caffeine more potent.

    Highlander Grogg, by far.

A close second is Biggby's Best blend.

A friend got me the starbucks Christmas blend as a gift, but I can't figure out the right measurement/water ratio to get it to taste consistent to what was brewed in the stores. The package calls for 2 tbsps/6oz but that came out WAY too strong.

Just bought a Keurig single cup coffee maker too, love it. We haven't brewed our own since buying it. I can't even remember what The Wife used to buy.

    Aren't those Keurigs really expensive?

Serious question... what's the point of buying a coffee maker that expensive? Are those the ones you have to buy those little cups for each brew?

It will be nearly impossible to get your coffee to taste the same as that brewed at the coffee shop. The coffee machines at the store are brewed with filtered water and at the perfect temperature. They are also brewed faster than most store bought machines. Which also answers the above question about buying an expensive appliance. The coffee brew time plays a big factor in the flavor.

Keurig's cost about $100 plus or minus depending on the accessories of the machine....and the cups are about 50 cents apiece. So yes, you have a high up front cost....but there is no waste. You are going to get one perfectly brewed cup in about 30 sec. and it's as easy as loading a shotgun shell. Open the breach, put the cup in, snap it shut, and push the button to brew. No filters no measuring coffee and water. We use ours to get a quick cup any time of the day. If it's a weekend morning and we are going to drinking more than a cup, we'll brew coffee with our auto drip and make a pot. The pot will not be as good...you get spoiled pretty quick. I've never met anyone who has a Keurig who doesn't like it.

I had a cup of Hula Daddy once and it was exceptional. Though I don't think I'd but it at the price it costs now.
