Very serious. It is not a punishment to be dead. Tell me what pains did you suffer before you were born? What can you tell me about of things you first hand experienced before you were born?ccrunner609 wrote:BCsbank wrote:the death penalty is no penalty at all it is the absence of punishment. Dead people do not suffer hence no punishment.
LOLOLOLOL, Are you serious?
You were "dead" before you were born and suffered no ill.
To me death is non-existence you cease to exist you are gone and you did not exist before you were born.
The dp is not punishment but a release of punishment. There is no suffering once you are dead.
In a way the DP could be considered more humane than prison only they have not figured out a way to not kill the innocent. -

So, anyone sentenced to life in prison should just be executed?iclfan2 wrote: What is the point of life in prison? ^^^^Makes no sense. Who says punishment is only to make someone suffer. Punishment: "suffering, pain, or loss that serves as retribution." Punishment is a consequence for an action.BCSbunk wrote: It is not a punishment to be dead. Tell me what pains did you suffer before you were born? You just answered your own question with the definition of punishment.iclfan2 wrote:

Suffering pain or loss that serves as retribution.
Suffering pain or loss that serves as retribution is a consequence for a wrong action.
Death has no suffering or loss that serves as retribution. I would much rather die than rot in a prison cell. Once dead there is no suffering or loss.
I want the person to sit in prison and at least think about what he is missing out in the world and the freedoms they have lost because of their action. Especially in the case of most heinous crimes. -

If there is concrete evidence, 100% guilty, (ie semen in a child, fingerprints on a gun, etc.) then yes I think they should be executed. What use is it to keep someone in jail until they die? They are just taking up space in already full prisons for people that may get out one day. I know people who have been sentenced to 30 days in jail but got it knocked down to 10 days because of overcrowding. Get rid of the dead weight that is never getting out and start punishing people for real. It isn't like people sentenced to life in jail are kind people, they are heinous criminals.Upper90 wrote:

Suffering. Pain. Or loss. I'm pretty sure losing your life is a loss.BCSbunk wrote:

In your opinion. IMO it is a release not a loss. They are dead you have set them free.iclfan2 wrote:

In fact I can go so far as to show that in certain cases you are actually rewarding them instead of punishing them.
Lets say their religion teaches they get to live eternity in the most wonderful place that anyone can imagine all they have to do is die to get there.
So then you are rewarding the criminal instead of giving them a loss they get a plus.
Also no one has mentioned what should happen if you kill or mutilate someone who is innocent? -

What would you do to the Female rapists and molestor's? Pour concrete in their Vagina's?
Besides do you really want to limit your pool of possible sex partners by cutting their dicks off? -

I see it very differently than you do.
I see a DP as something "MOST" people do not look forward to.
If you had a choice to pick:
A. You will die and therefore will not wake tomorrow.
B. You will wake up tomorrow, have breakfast, read some books, eat, watch some tv, have lunch, walk around outside for about 1/2 hour, lift weights, get an education, perhaps get a visitor, look around on the internet, eat dinner, talk on the phone for a few minutes, take a shower, read some books, go to sleep - knowing that the next day you will have the very same opportunities.
Obviously, "MOST" people will choose B.
Wanting to live is the most basic instinct/need that we can experience. -
sleeperNo, but they need to go to jail for a long long time.

That is not an accurate representation of prison life for the most heinous of offenders. Many are on 23 hour lockdown for the rest of their lives. An example Charles Manson. He is on 23 hr lockdown and has been.CenterBHSFan wrote:BCSbunk wrote: Very serious. It is not a punishment to be dead. Tell me what pains did you suffer before you were born? He is not allowed to even be outside as are many of the worst offenders. Now if you want to debate whether the prison system is too lax you will not get much resistence from me unless torture or mutilation is advocated as humane. -
dancinbearNo. They should be killed.
Even if you removed their repro organs I'm sure many would find other ways to hurt people. -

september63Rapists shall be sentenced to 48 hrs in a padded room with Skank. He will give them a little of what they were guilty of. Might even send them on their way with a mini Tiger football!!
