Site Rule Suggestion
-
ernest_t_bassI was just scanning through our members, and I noticed a lot of members who have zero posts. Would it clear up any space on your server if you made a rule that:
"Any member who has failed to make a post in "X" amount of days, or failed to log-in in "X" amount of days will have their account deleted, for house-cleaning purposes."
Now, for respected/established members, who may be taking a hiatus, they would be fine. But those who have 0-10 posts, who have not been on in forever, they get deleted.
What do you think? -

ernest_t_bassLOL... OK, those are deserved.
-
j_crazyI like it. inactivity needs to be punished, if you want to lurk I think you can view threads without being signed in (at least you can on vaJJ).
-
justincredibleThe "space" cleared up would be minimal. I will eventually go through and clear up users who haven't posted but it won't be on a set schedule or anything.

Swamp FoxI think it could cause friction between the Huddlers. Who are among the chosen? Do we always know why certain people seem to be on hiatus? I think it defeats the purpose of a Freehuddle. You are currently free to post and free not to. With the new rule. you would now be responsible to post something whether you really wanted to or not. I fully understand the need to occasionally do some "housecleaning" but didn't the disappaerance of many posts on the "other" site, cause incredible friction and anger among some who thought it was done vindictively. Sometimes people have very long memories. I say we keep it free for those who wish to post, and free and available to those who may not post much or may not ever post.

Just to clarify, I would not remove anyone that has ever posted. My criteria for housecleaning would be zero posts and a last login of over a month or so.Swamp Fox wrote: I think it could cause friction between the Huddlers. Who are among the chosen? HereticI, on the other hand, will flat out ban you if you say one damn word I disagree with!

I can understand a sports site, especially if you HAVE to register to read. However, since this site is not highly sports oriented (more bull-shitting oriented), I don't get why, either.ccrunner609 wrote: Never understood why people would get on a site and never post. -
Mr. 300Thanks for the suggestion JJ.

ChesapeakeWhat about gif images? I realize they're hosted elsewhere but it still makes pages load slower on these forums.
Do they fight with the server? -

They are hosted elsewhere so they don't fight with these servers at all. Yeah, the page takes longer to load but that is just the browser parsing all of the gifs and loading them from other sources. There is no way around that.Chesapeake wrote: What about gif images? I realize they're hosted elsewhere but it still makes pages load slower on these forums.

beenthere/donethatI don't post much unless a topic appears in which I'm interested ... and most of them don't. I do appreciate this site and hope it becomes as good as the other one was in its glory days.
I also noticed for awhile this month that you could not read the Serious Business forum without being logged in. Wasn't sure why that happened. -

Especially about food. -
Fly4FunI don't think this is that good of an idea. I know there are plenty of people who sign up a name and just read instead of posting... at least there were over at the other Huddle. I'm assuming as this place grows the same will happen.
