2010: "Twenty Ten" or "Two Thousand Ten"

  • NYBuckeye96
How do you pronounce 2010..........."Twenty Ten" or "Two Thousand Ten"????

2010 is supposed to be the first year we start saying "Twenty" instead of "Two Thousand"..........."Twenty Ten" "Twenty Eleven" "Twenty Twelve" etc.

The Winter Olympics in Vancouver are being advertised as the "Twenty Ten Olympics" and the Summer Olympics in London are being advertised as the "Twenty Twelve Olympics".

Are we experiencing the final days of a decade of pronouncing "Two Thousand" and starting "Twenty" like we did throughout history up to 1999? Or do you think people will keep saying Two Thousand instead of Twenty?

I'll probably end up saying Twenty Ten

Our answer by asking the question, how did we pronounce 1910? We have always called the 10s-90s of a century by first 2 digits, like fourteen ninety two or nineteen eighty five.

I agree on calling it Twenty Ten. However, we called 1905 "Nineteen Oh Five" but we called 2005 "Two Thousand Five" and not "Twenty Oh Five" which broke from tradition from past centuries.

The past ten years have been an oddity in how we pronounce the years.
