Who isn't guilty until proven innocent? The media is the only one driving hate crimes cuz it sells. Race shouldn't even be the issue here; the hack of a judge should be.vball10set wrote: as I said, the Duke lacrosse team was guilty until proven innocent--in a court of law!!!

By white supremists preferably! (then its a prison hate crime). -
fan_from_texasThe article is very disturbing. But the name of the publication, combined with the subject matter, make me wonder how accurately this is all being reported. I'd venture that upwards of 80% of the "evil legal system" stories that are reported in the media result from a basic misunderstanding by the reporter of what actually happened in court. Leaving out a few key facts can make a huge difference. I haven't seen any other articles about this story, but I'd be interested in reading them to get a fuller picture. As it stands, what has been reported is disturbing and disgusting.

WebsurfinbirdWhat struck me most about this article, regardless of its accuracy, is how it still shows that today's society often blames the rape victim in some capacity. I think many of us have this idea that rape only occurs in the dark alley by a random stranger, but the reality is most rapes are caused by someone the victim knows.
This whole subject hits me hard as a female, someone who knows women who have been sexually abused/raped and just as a decent human being.
Also a word of advice for you men on here. A woman doesn't have to say "no" for it to be rape. If a woman you're hooking up with is so intoxicated that she can barely stay awake, let alone speak, she probably isn't in the right mind to say no. -
SykotykFirst, the facts of the case indicate they were caught because they bragged about it. You can't 'partially' rape someone. It's not one guy having sex with a drunk girl. It was a premeditated act of gang-raping her.
Probation is pointless. You get 2 years for grand theft auto.

Every single time they have upheld a hate crime. There is no such thing as a hate crime. There is only crime.ZWICK 4 PREZ wrote: Only the media. Since when has a court upheld a hate crime that wasn't justified?
Which is complete bullshit. If the girl is irresponsible enough to land herself in that position, then wakes up in a strangers bed the next day, that is her problem. Chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on.Websurfinbird wrote:

I guess the drunk guy doesn't have any rights either. I'd love to see a drunk guy sue the girl. -

You are so right on. There would have been riots by now if the roles would be reversed.eersandbeers wrote: I think the main point is being missed here. Can you imagine the news coverage and outrage if a black girl was raped by 3 white guys? Sharpton and Jackson would be protesting and Obama would be offering his opinion. This has gone relatively unnoticed and somehow a hate crime isn't even mentioned. -

My comment was obviously not interpreted as I wrote it. I know there are hate crime laws, I was stating my own opinion when I said there is no such thing as a hate crime. -

Do you mean the Duke LaCrosse scandal? That didnt even happen the way the girl said and those boys got ran through the ringer...only to find out that her girlfriend even said she was lying.Al Capone wrote:

If a woman took advantage of a guy who was intoxicated to a point that he wasn't in the right state of mind to consent and a woman took advantage of him, then yes I would say that would constitute sexual assault. -

I think there's a big difference between a drunken one night stand (i.e. waking up in a stranger's bed) and being violently gang raped. You really can't compare the two. For the former, you may have regrets about your behavior, but it was of your own free will. For the latter, she had no chance after being forced into a bathroom.Which is complete bullshit. If the girl is irresponsible enough to land herself in that position, then wakes up in a strangers bed the next day, that is her problem. Chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on.
If I recall, the article said that they had provided her the alcohol. If this was someone who rarely if ever drank, it wouldn't take much for her to get really drunk and not know enough how quickly it would hit her.
