What Bank do you prefer?

  • JTizzle
Do you prefer one of the larger Corps like Bank of America, Chase or a smaller hometown bank that is less vulnerable and not leveraged near as much?

    Sperm bank, mostly for lunches.

FDIC insures up to $250,000 whether it's a big bank or small. Personally,I prefer giving my business to the locally owned bank.

I put my real money in a regional chain.

I used to bank with larger banks like Huntington & Fifth 3rd but was sick of them putting 3-7 day "holds" on my paychecks. Switched over to a smaller bank, which my company banks through, so now there are no holds. My money is available immediately.

Company has automatic deposit to 5/3, so I use that. We have a shit load of PNC in the area, so the wife uses them so ATM is easy.

5/3 for home, Huntington for work

    Credit Union

Going to school a few hours from where I am from prevents me from using regional banks. I have kept my regional bank account from home however. I have Huntington as well as my primary account since it is near home as well as school. Have never had any problems with them/

I bank at Chase. I have no problems with them. I never get holds on checks, plus I like the fact I can deposit a check or cash in the ATM up until 11PM and it goes in that days business.

    I make withdrawals, not deposits.

But Salem doesn't have a local bank worth a damn IMO

My local bank didn't have a lot of the nice features, technology or other, that the big banks could offer. And, when I was with them, I was constantly getting letters with new debit cards because their database was compromised. Haven't had that problem at 5/3.

Plus, the building my company owns houses 5/3 on the first floor, so it is very convenient.

So you don't put your money in any bank? Or you just picked the most retarded answer to respond with?

Uhhh, yeah. Why would you think I don't based on that answer?

The original poster offered features as examples that may determine such a choice. That lends to the inclination he was seeking for why certain banks would be chosen.

I offered that answer. I didn't base the decisions on size nor potential "vulnerability" due to leveraged values but rather location.

The question was which bank do I prefer. I prefer the closest one to my home.

In my experience, they are all pretty much the same. Just shop for the best rates on credit, savings and mortgages. I wouldn't worry about solvency so long as you have less than $250k in there (which should never be the case unless you're filthy rich - it should be invested). OK, exception if you have a 2-3 kids getting ready for college and you don't want to be caught in a bear market.
