Can’t do
-
Belly35I have always hated that “can’t do" attitude, even more just hearing it. My kids knew better that to display that type of attitude or say that they can’t do something.
When that physical challenge seemed to be overwhelming did you achieve or can’t do win?
I ask the OC what physical challenge accomplishment are you most proud of?
I have a few but this one was crazy and physically stressful however I accomplished the task and set an example for my daughters.
I was 40 years old, I saw this wall (I enjoy architecture) it was made from old sidewalks broke up and stacked but it looked like River Slag Stone. I had two old Maple trees in my front yard that was difficult to mow around because of the roots. I got this crazy idea to do the same and build a wall around them. I study the wall, took picture an went on line to learn more. I planned out to make two large circle 20 foot radius, 24” inch high and fill it with dirt and plant ivy. Having no idea of how much old side walk I needed or where to get it. Few weeks later down the road from my house, A company where taking out an old cement driveway I walked down ask if I could have it … not a problem. Five dump truck loads of old driverway was now in the side yard. Note: that a hell of a lot of cement. With a sledge hammer, wheel barrel, shove and pick I started. Wife was pissed, the kids thought I was crazy, neighbors shook their head … you will never get this done, it to hard to move this concrete, how are you going to stack it, shit that a lot of work..
It took me one year to build both circles after it was complete … it was beautiful. OH! Forgot no dirt in it yet. I don’t know how we figure this out but I order 20 yards of top soil. It was delivery the wrong day and dumped in my driveway ( not in the circle like ordered) the day before my middle daughter graduation party at my house and 150 people potentially to show up. That night started at 10:00 my youngest daughter (12 years old at the time) and I shoved, loaded wheel barrel and a mower cart and filled both circle we completed the job at 4:00 in the morning. I took Boston ivy from the wooded area of my property and also planted it by 6:00 in the morning.
When you come to Belly house you can't see the walls the ivy has grown over it.
Three week ago I built a flower bed using old sidewalk extending over the bank in the back yard and next weekend I'm building another one for the wife after that there is no more old sidewalk in the woods anymore... Thank God </SPAN> -

ha that'd be awesome. The mt. snow one was a bitch because you're either going up a muddy mountain or down a muddy mountain, there is basically no flat ground.Belly35;1212845 wrote:I was working out to do a Tought Mudder (bucket list) with my daughter, had a few injury in the past year (poor excuse) however things are getting better so I start training again soom...

I have a few. I had never thought I would become a runner. Always was in sports but stopped after school. My first time out about 9 years ago I ran 100 meters and was GASSED, and hurting. I went on to run 5K's, 10K's and some half marathons. At the beginning it was tough, very tough and many nights had to ice my knees and ankles, but it was all worth it. Now if I MISS a day or two of running I feel bad.
I think my biggest physical accomplishment was going through basic training at Ft Benning in July/August and outdoing most of my platoon in PT, at the age of 36. Going in I worked my ass off getting ready and it paid off. Actually, they dont run a whole lot at BCT so my runs got worse, but the other stuff got better. I was worried with staying up with kids half of my age, and when we did our first one mile assessment and found myself in last after about 200 meters I thought what the heck did I get myself in to. But, slowly but surely I was passing guys one by one and finished in the top few of 55 man platoon. It got to the point where guys were pacing off of me on their PT test because they hadnt learned how to pace themselves yet. -

WTF Basic at 36 no way... Hell I was a top shape athlete at 19 years old and the BasicTraining at Ft Campbell and physical punishment was at my breaking point. I was able to handle it and over achieved but at 36 year no way.. Bad Mofo :laugh:thavoice;1212860 wrote:Great topic belly, of which is becoming more and more rare on message boards these days.

Ha. Thanks, but I am not a fool to believe we went through the same physical regiment. I would say the training back then was expendentionally tougher than what I went through.Belly35;1212892 wrote:WTF Basic at 36 no way...
