Summersville Lake, WV...pontoon rental, learn me.

Do we have any posters who have ventured this far in to WV? I figured we may have some southern Ohioans that have made the trip. I've never been there and clueless about the area.

I'm heading there with a group in August and I get the fun task of finding a place to rent a boat and I'm searching for info. I haven't found much.

The only place I could find that appears legit it...

I've found two others, one has the boats on trailers and have to haul and launch yourself, I'd rather not deal with that. The other place seems bogus and the contact number was disconnected. I'm just looking at a place with the best rates with little hassle.

Any help or other tips appreciated, and no won't be jumping off of those 30 ft cliffs. :D:D

I do a good bit of work in the WVA panhandle. Some good people in those parts and the state is beautiful. Hope this helps.

Search for the marina's and call them.
Watch out tho...some of them that I have seen as rentals at some places arent that good, expensive to rent, and have a very low HP and ya could almost paddle boat faster

This sounds lame. Go Dale Hollow or Cumberland and get a houseboat.

Cumberland was a thought at first, but both are too far.

When I worked at a summer camp in Pocahontas county in west Virginia we went there for a day off each summer. Im not sure about renting a boat but when we went we enjoyed the swimming and cliff diving. The cliff diving there was a lot of fun but one counselor did bustair dear drum when he landed wrong. The town itself is nothing special but does have a small mall and movie theater. You should look into snowshoe mountain for a day. It's an awesome ski resort that is still really nice in the summer. They have lots of outdoor activites great cabins for rent and some nice shopping. The resort also has a good golf course and pool area. We actually had a couple bears walk right below our balcony in the cabins and the views were great.

Was there 10-12 years ago when my son was in Scouts. We did a float trip and a raft trip on the New River. I don't think the Gauley was running then. Camped at Summersville Lake for several days and were on the lake but didn't do a pontoon. Folks we were with had a boat. Our service project for the week was trash cleanup along the lake shore. Some of those cliffs were pretty high. The dam is pretty cool too. We were camped away from the main campsites in a group camp. Sounded like those folks in the regular campground were having fun, if you know what I mean. Overall, it was a great time.

BTW, my son is now living in Queens. Ditmar and 75th. Is that close to you?

Wow...random. Yeah somewhat close. I'm off the Ditmars stop also in Astoria, but opposite direction of 75th. I'm near 21st, right by the park.

Thanks for the tips. It's basically a bunch of guys meeting up to booze, camp, fish, etc. We have a decent range of people, young and old so should be interesting.
