Vacation Question/Help?

  • Mister Twister
My wife and I are driving Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway next week. I was wondering if any OCers have done this, and what are some of the must sees. We have a crapload of information from the internet and AAA, but obviously are not going to be able to hit everything. Is there anything that stuck out to you that you would recommend to others? And, we want to try to stay away from the tourist traps.

    Thanks for your help.

I drive it 3 times a year. Never stop. I've always wanted to check out the distilleries. Also the national Corvette museum is not far from there. I hope you have fun.

I hiked on the blue ridge parkway a bit when I was a kid. It was really nice. Unfortunately I don't remember anything about the where or how. Only that I really liked it.

Hiked some trails on the BRP twice in the last three months just outside of Brevard, NC. Great trails there if you are into hiking, lots of waterfalls in that area as well.

I can't understand why anyone would jump out of a perfectly fine airplane

If you want to go to the beach with nothing commercial then try Topsail Island NC
    Love that place.

Really? I thought the Museum is over my Bowling Green, Ky.

Skyline is Virginia. Big Meadows is hit or miss for dinner. The Caverns on I-81 are pretty cool.

You know, I was curious as well. I will keep Topsail Island in mind, if I ever decide to go to the coast. I will also keep the Corvette Museum in mind, if I am actually in Kentucky. Right now, we are just planning on being in the mountains, driving the whole parkway, from Front Royal, VA to Cherokee, NC. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you have never been to Monticello, it is only a half hour east of the parkway.

If so, eat at the Miche Inn, Old style (1800's) food with fried chicken.

I eat Skyline once or twice a week. I normally get a 4-way with onions.

In this neck of the woods (Washington, LOL) we don't have any Skyline. :(

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks. Will do.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different road.

    Yes, it's called Interstate 65.

The map that got me there must have been labeled wrong, and the actual roads. That pisses me off.
