Aldi's

Who shops at Aldi? I used to never go, now its every week. Granted, there are some things like Jiff peanut butter that they don't sell, but for the essentials, its Aldi. Kroger and Giant Eagle have the same stuff at 2x the price!

Aldi's generic cinnamon rolls and swiss cake rolls are awesome.

Also, I hear they have an awesome fresh fruit selection, but I don't eat fruit because I'm a man.

My wife fucking love's Aldi. She goes there first and then gets everything they don't have at Walmart.

Aldi produce section is great. Nice green peppers 2 for 0.79 that at Big Bird are like 0.99 each. Can't beat Aldi's produce.

Rumor was always that Aldi's had "school pizza"

    True?

This is a very timely thread, yesterday we recieved all the grocery store ads in the mail. Just out of curiosity we looked through the Aldi's Ad and the local grocery store chain Buehler's ad. There were several items (identical brand and size) at Aldi's that were almost $2 per item lower. I think we are going to start going there to shop.

    Have you ever been?

Once or twice just to pick up an item or two because we were driving right by. Never really looked around or compared prices though.

Got a flyer yesterday about it.

The local one is re opening as it got pretty messed up due to a tornado last spring. They did reopen and rented a new location in the time being but never went.

andn o...i have never shopped there.

I've never shopped there and probably never will. Heard it has good deals though.

    Hope this helps.

I go once in a while. I don't do a lot of grocery shopping but they do have special items I like to get once in a while. Aldis sure has changed in the last 15 years.

The reason I ask, is because some people can be turned off about having to deposit a quarter to get a cart(which is returned when you return the cart) and that they only take cash and debit cards.

I'd guess 80% of our grocery purchases are from Aldi.

Yeah the first time there we were a little surprised by the quarter deposit thing, but not enough to deter us from returning. Makes sense though, why pay someone to retrieve carts from the parking lot because people don't return them?

Exactly, just like the self-bagging. Want those conveniences, be prepared to pay for them. I prefer the low prices.

I fucking hate Aldi's. No, not all of their food is bad and the prices are hard to beat. But I hate the feeling of being in there. Lines are long, people are (for the most part) dirty and a lot of their boxed food is crap.

I'll pay more for shorter lines, more open aisles and an overall "cleaner" shopping experience.

The last time we went in there was for a gallon of milk. It took 20 minutes to get the milk from the cooler to the car. No thanks.

Not sure if it's "school pizza" or if thats a good thing or not, but Aldi has a 16" supreme for $5.99. Its more than not bad, it's actually very tasty. We get one maybe once a week and there's usually enough left over to heat it up in a skillet on the stove next morning or eat it cold for lunch.

Not really what they're about. Manning a express lane is far more expensive than manning regular lanes.

OTOH, I'd guess getting through the store and out the door with a cart load of groceries is faster at Aldi than the name stores.

No....school pizza is the rectangle pizza slices. Not much sauce but 330 calories of yummy compared to my typical school lunch entree

This is exactly what we do.

I refuse to go because it costs $.25 to use a shopping cart...
  • oberhaus
We get almost everything there. Some lunch meats and peanut butter we buy elsewhere. The selection of cheese is pretty good. Milk is only $1.79.

You get the .25 back when you return the cart. It keeps them from having to pay someone to collect the carts in the parking lot. (and keeps the parking lot clean so you don't have to worry about some jackass pushing a cart into your car.)

We will spend maybe $40 a week at Aldi and that covers packed lunches for work and 7 evening meals for 2 adults. The GF used to spend about that much each week just on fast food lunches. We eat healthier now as well as saving money.
