Extreme act of sportsmanship?

So, is this an extreme act of sportsmanship?

A runner stopped in the state final of the 3200M to help a competitor who had fallen 20M from the finish. They were both already out of contention at that point.

Wondered how long it would be before this story made it on here. The girl's mom was my childhood babysitter, and is a member here (the mom). Orangechick, or something like that. This is my alma matter. Pretty sweet.

Fuckin stupid. Win the tournament, however she'll get so much publicity she'll get noticed by colleges

I thought it was great. Reminds me a little of that British runner who pulled his hamstring during a race several years back in the Olympics and was crying while limping in an attempt to finish the race. His father ran out onto the track and helped him finish the rest of the race. I tear up every time I see it.

Well we know who can read and who can't.

Not really that great of a story. Who wouldn't do this? Out of contention already, might as well get some publicity.

    Huh?? What tournament??

She had already won the mile. So if she's getting noticed by colleges, that's why.

She's one of the top runners in Ohio. She'll get noticed plenty by colleges. Already has.

That was pretty much my thought. It's a fairly normal/natural reaction. The article title makes it sound like she gave up 1st place, or at least 3rd. It's hardly extreme. Perhaps if she had LITERALLY carried her maybe that would have been "extreme".

It is the pussification of sports. should have won the race, then went back and did a victory dance around her bleeding body.

    You know Reading is Fundamental.

Yes because being 20M from the finish line and in LAST place, you are definitely going to win.

So is winning. If you are going to be a loser, do not finish last.

She humiliated that girl by not giving her the opportunity to finish the race on her own. Lucky she wasn't badly hurt or we could have had an extreme lawsuit on our hands

She wouldn't have. She chose to! She easily could have helped the girl but still crossed first.

exactly. Was nice, but it didn't matter. She had nothing to lose.

    However, good show of character.
