Verizon to kill grandfathered unlimited data plans with 4G upgrades
-
Scarlet_BuckeyeHow is there not already a thread on this?
Hasn't anyone seen/read about this yet? >> Verizon to kill grandfathered unlimited data plans with 4G upgrades -
FatHobbitSo does that mean if I upgrade to 4G now, I can stay on an unlimited plan?
-
dlazzAfter summer if you sign another contract your unlimited data will go away.
If you pull the trigger now, you'll be fine.
At least that's what it says. -
said_aouitaI heard the OC will start charging a membership fee soon too.
What is the world coming to? -

Thanks. That's how I read it.dlazz;1173281 wrote:After summer if you sign another contract your unlimited data will go away.

hoops23Sigh. Looks like I'll be switching to Sprint then.

thePITmanMy workplace has a higher discount % than my dad's company (our account is under his name). This past winter we went in, going to change the account over to my name. If we did this, we would have had to have gone with the tiered data plan (no longer unlimited). Furthermore, my company discount (which is a DARN good 19% plan, 19% data) only applies to the primary line for plan, and only applies to the 2nd and 3rd tiers (did not include the $30 2GB plan).
My dad's percentage discounts are 12%/15%, and mine are 19%/19%. After the switch, because of the restrictions and mandatory plan changes, we would have only saved about $1/month. Not worth the hassle. -
wildcats20So if I already have a 4g contract I'm good?
-
ts1227I've only ever cracked 1 GB twice, don't really care.
-
Belly35I have my orginal contract sign, seal and ready for delievery " Unlimited Plan " back in 2000 (i think that was the year)...
They better have a good compensation plan ready .... for the Belly and business and family -
raiderbuckWho's cracking 2gig's of monthly data anyway? Plus, with the coming ability to share data plans, it may actually work in your favor.
I'd be great to pool smartphones on a family plan into one large data plan. That is...if the data limits are enough. -
hasbeen
Yeah. I feel like I used my phone a lot at school with no wifi and never got close. I didn't really check that much, though. Thus far this month, I'm only at 1/3 of a gig, but I'm on wifi a lot more at home.raiderbuck;1173331 wrote:Who's cracking 2gig's of monthly data anyway? wes_mantoothyeah, I never use much more than a gb. With that said, verizon sucks....wish the coverage for sprint wasn't so lousy for my needs.

I do most of my Web surfing on my phone on 4g...used 5.5 gb last month 4g and almost 1gb 3g on my sprint evo 3d. -
imex99You will lose once you get your next new phone and new contract....
Verizon Communications CFO Fran Shammo stated that all customers will be migrated off of current unlimited data plans and on to a new data-share plan to launch this summer. "Everyone will be on data share", according to Shammo. As people renew contracts and move to new 4G LTE smartphones and other devices, their current data plan will no longer be available. -
Fab1bI'm sure ATT will follow suit here as I am grandfathered on their unlimited though I have only gone over 2g's once in 3yrs (a month or two ago after putting my slingbox on my phone) as soon as it happened I got a text stating continuing over 2g's would result in lower speeds (throttling) motherfuckers!
The only place I use a ton of data is in the office because we cannot connect to the company's wifi except on company equipment. -
Classyposter58Sprint needs to pounce now and really amp up their coverage. My coverage has improved but it's still not at Verizon levels. But limits are ridiculous

Fab1bsprints coverage is freaking awful

imex99Sprint's network overhaul...
Network Vision : http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/129198-network-vision-sprints-path-to-domination
Total network overhaul and they touting it will be comparable to Verizon and lte every where 3g is located.... Then Clearwire who runs Sprint's current wimax 4g is transitioning from wimax to lte and will have sprint lte and Clearwire lte. -
hoops23I never use 2GB just because I'm always on Wi-Fi, but it's the principle. I'll likely stick with VZW just because of my 20% discount I get through work.

raiderbuckI recently switched to sprint because it was cheaper, and my job gives me a 27% discount. I'm on their 3G network with my 4s. Let's just say there's a reason why their data plan costs $10. It blows. Hopefully, this overhaul improves coverage.
That said...I try to use wifi when available. Even when I had my Droid on Verizon. I don't think I touched 2gb of data when on the network. -
Pick6I dont plan on getting a new phone for another year at least..So this shouldnt affect me, for a while anyways.
How do you check how much data you use? Im curious how much I use. -

Sign in online to check your usage or if you have an iPhone/Android phone you can download the Verizon app.Pick6;1173537 wrote:I dont plan on getting a new phone for another year at least..So this shouldnt affect me, for a while anyways.
