Bucket List
-
AppleChecked two off my bucket list this past week.
1. Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY on Thursday.
2. Ball game at Fenway Park (Indians vs. Red Sox) Saturday night.
HoF was pretty cool, but I'd have to say the Pro Football HoF is much better.
Fenway was very cool! Awesome weather, great crowd. We had center field bleacher seats.
Add in going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and I have 3 bucket list items checked off this year. We're hoping to maybe get to Wrigley Field later this summer which will make it 4 this year.
I know, cool story bro. -
SnotBubblesWait 2 years on going to Wrigley. The team isn't very good and the atmosphere is down. 2 years will be the time to go...unless you don't think you have that much time left...

Wrigley is a blast. I plan on returning there for the Reds series in August, probably for the Friday day game.Apple;1169900 wrote:Checked two off my bucket list this past week.

Esplayne? Why two years? Atmosphere? The team is always going to suck, so that can't be it.SnotBubbles;1169908 wrote:Wait 2 years on going to Wrigley. The team isn't very good and the atmosphere is down. 2 years will be the time to go...unless you don't think you have that much time left... -
AppleIs 2014 the 100-year anniversary of Wrigley? 2012 is Fenway's 100-year. We were thinking of going to the Red's series that weekend too. Maybe hit the White Sox/A's on that Saturday.

gorocks992014 will be Wrigley's 100th year.
TBH, having been to multiple games at both Fenway and Wrigley, I prefer Fenway much, much more (and I'm not just saying that as a Red Sox fan...). Wrigley, while historic, is kinda dumpy for me (although I hear there will be a number of upgrades taking place in the future, like a video board) -

Agreed. The Cubs will never be good so just go now.ernest_t_bass;1169915 wrote:Esplayne? Why two years? Atmosphere? The team is always going to suck, so that can't be it.
I agree that Wrigley is a blast but the park is a giant shit hole.
I'll be headed to Cooperstown for the first time in July for Larkin's induction. I'll also be headed to Canton for the first time this summer for Martin's induction. I have no doubt that I'll enjoy Cooperstown A LOT more, though.
I'd like to make it up to Fenway in the next couple years. Hopefully the Reds will play there in interleague play soon and I'll have an excuse to go. -

I'll likely be going up for this series as well. Not sure if I'll make it to the Friday game.ernest_t_bass;1169914 wrote:Wrigley is a blast. I plan on returning there for the Reds series in August, probably for the Friday day game. -

I just love the atmosphere outside the park, around the ENTIRE park, on game day. That place knows how to party!justincredible;1169939 wrote:Agreed. The Cubs will never be good so just go now.

I will say, however, that I was very impressed with GABP last year during Yankees series. They're definitely making strides towards a party atmosphere on game day. -

You should make it down this season. Lots more open now. Last year it was just the Holy Grail. Now we have the Lager House, Johnny Rockets, Toby Keiths with more stuff opening in the near future. We're getting a Yard House soon, which has up to 200 craft beers on tap. Fuck yeah.ernest_t_bass;1169943 wrote:I just love the atmosphere outside the park, around the ENTIRE park, on game day. WHAT!?! When that opens I suggest an OC game day outing.justincredible;1169947 wrote:You should make it down this season. Lots more open now. Last year it was just the Holy Grail. I might, and probably will. My BIL has access to club seats for any home game. Last year we made the mistake of filling up at the Holy Grail, only to find out we had an all-you-can-eat buffet in club. Won't make same mistake this year!justincredible;1169947 wrote:You should make it down this season. Lots more open now. Last year it was just the Holy Grail. Absolutely. Not sure what the timeframe is on it opening though.Commander of Awesome;1169963 wrote:WHAT!?! When that opens I suggest an OC game day outing. -

The fans aren't attending the games this year and it's not the same "party type" atmosphere. We've sucked for 104 years now. This year's team sucks hard. In 2 years, when these talented young prospects that Theo/Jed have acquired (hopefully) pan out...the team will be competitive again and the fans that make it fun will be out in full force. Watch a game on TV...for the first time in YEARS there are plenty of empty seats at Wrigley.ernest_t_bass;1169915 wrote:Esplayne? Why two years? Atmosphere? Additionally, they are doing a LOT of improvements to the confines. The place will be completely upgraded by 2014, in time for the 100 year anniversary. It will be a lot more impressive in 2014. A few schematics I've found:

dlazzI had an epiphany the other day:
The Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs are both bears.
Also, the only thing on my bucket list is to fuck sluts and get money, so I've already completed my list. -
ernest_t_bassI only live 3-hours away from Chicago, so I'll make sure I make it up in 2014 as well.

Those improvements look pretty good. I'll be curious to see what all they do to the park/area around it. I hope the Cubs continue to suck, however.SnotBubbles;1169997 wrote:The fans aren't attending the games this year and it's not the same "party type" atmosphere. We've sucked for 104 years now. I'm not going to lie. I want the Cubs to be good. Real good, actually. I just always want the Reds to be better. St. Louis, on the other hand... I want them to suck.justincredible;1170006 wrote:Those improvements look pretty good. I'll be curious to see what all they do to the park/area around it. I hope the Cubs continue to suck, however. -

Apparently they're going to demo some of the buildings (they purchased the McDonald's on the corner) and make more parking (there is essentially none). They're goal is to keep the nostalgia of the ol' time ballpark, while also making it more modern. The plan is to do a lot of "Fenway" type upgrades from what I've read.justincredible;1170006 wrote:Those improvements look pretty good. And I honestly believe, for the first time in my 30 years, that the Cubs are on track to put a solid team together and break the curse. They're young, talented and have a boatload of $ for FA's over the next 2 years, especially with Soriano's contract FINALLY expiring and the payoff on Zambrano expiring. I didn't like what Theo & Jed did in the off-season at all (with the exception of the Rizzo trade). After watching this team play, I've changed my opinion. If it weren't for Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol, the Cubs would be above .500. -

I'm sitting out my annual trip to Wrigley this year since we're trying to sell our house. But I'll get a hold of you next year and if you want you can make the trip with us. I only require that you and I share a bed and we both sleep in the nude.ernest_t_bass;1170024 wrote:I'm not going to lie. I want the Cubs to be good. Real good, actually. But if they're good they can't be the "lovable losers."ernest_t_bass;1170024 wrote:I'm not going to lie. I want the Cubs to be good. Real good, actually. I just always want the Reds to be better. St. Louis, on the other hand... I want them to suck. -

I had a roommate from Chicago in college. Seeing his passion for his team made me a better Reds fan, and it kinda put a soft spot in my heart for the Cubs.justincredible;1170047 wrote:But if they're good they can't be the "lovable losers."
I LOATH the Cards, though. -

I think you mean MarmLOL, amirite? I don't think they'd be above .500 without those guys, but that LaHair guy is pretty good. I am worried what they'll do once the Soriano contract is off the books, that thing was a killer. Hopefully they throw a lot of money at that Alfonso Soriano guy, I hear he's good.SnotBubbles;1170031 wrote:Apparently they're going to demo some of the buildings (they purchased the McDonald's on the corner) and make more parking (there is essentially none). Also, I agree on that Soriano guy. I'm thinking a Pujols-esq contract. Somewhere in the ballpark of 10 years, 250 million. He'd only be 47 at the end of that contract...still in his prime.
This guy agrees with me on .500 or better if it weren't for Woody and MarmLOL (last paragraph). They've been THAT bad....

justincredibleBack to bucket lists. I don't have one that I actively keep track of but here is a quick list:
Visit all MLB parks
Visit Europe. I'd list all the countries I'd like to go to but it'd be a long list. Germany, Ireland, and England would be at the top of the list.
Vacation in Bora Bora.
Skydive.
I'm sure there are more but I don't feel like thinking anymore.
