Upper90Being the music critic/nerd myself, I went straight to the top 10 albums list. I don't agree with all of it, but I appreciate the interesting choices, like Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway. An album I truly appreciated when it came out, and though it wouldn't even sniff my top 10 of the decade, I appreciate the writer's willingness to throw it up there, and I think he's dead on. I've met the most classical of classical music nerds, and the most indie of indie, but they all get into that record. One of my friends even has it on vinyl. Crazy.

...Paris Hilton is posing for a photoshoot...EVERY...time someone has a camera out, even the booking cop at the police dept. IMO she's a nasty looking skank.The_Crosby_Show wrote: Paris Hilton looks like she's posing for a photoshoot in that shot. -
Fab4RunnerSome of these lists are good...others remind me why I don't read Newsweek.

-You say you're a music critic/nerd and can appreciate Kelly Clarkson? Please explain this. A pop robot manufactured with umpteen writers and producers can be appreciated? Please explain..and I'm not just giving you a hard time! I really want to know!Upper90 wrote: Being the music critic/nerd myself, I went straight to the top 10 albums list. KnightXC1The movie list is awful. A bunch of documentaries and tiny Indie films that maybe 300 people saw. Somehow I doubt more than a handful of people will remember any of those and Borat was awful.

ernest_t_bassMy eyes are killing me because of the white text on black background. I figured a big business like Newsweek would know that is a no-no for websites. Good lists, though.

Upper90Well, you don't appreciate a quality singer?
It's the same reason I appreciate Steve Perry. And why I own Christina Aguilera albums.
It's not about being a fan, as I'm not a fan....but I appreciate the fact that she's got a killer voice. For me, a big part of music, is accepting it for what it is, on a case by case basis. Which is why I said Clarkson wouldn't come near my top 10 list, because on the whole, I can't give her that much credit, when she doesn't format the bulk of her own music (although, she's credited with co-writing half of her last record, "co-writing" is such a tricky phrase these days.), but I'm of the opinion that she makes otherwise disposable pop somewhat listenable. She's got a strong voice, a very easy voice to take in, and she does it without a lot of vocal acrobatics, where most other acts in her lane have really tough voices to get attached to. No matter how catchy the hook on a Miley Cyrus, or even say a Shakira song...I just can't get into it (At least not on any of Shakira's American records, oddly enough, her Spanish stuff is a bit more accessible.)
And, like the writer in the article said, and I agree with, Kelly Clarkson is pretty widely respected across the board. Yeah, she doesn't write her own stuff, but she really knows what she is, and doesn't pretend otherwise. I compare her to Pat Benatar, another fantastic singer, who probably never wrote a lick of her own music (at least not the good stuff, if anyone thinks "Hell is for Children" was a good song, maybe?), but still, I could never say that Benatar wasn't on some good records. -
WebsurfinbirdI really need to check out The Wire .... number one on the TV drama list, and the huddle always sings its praises.

Laley23Always Sunny being left off the comedy list is a travesty.

I noticed that and thought it odd as well. -
Laley23They also made this list too early. Tiger Woods easily takes the #1 spot for the sex scandal details list. But he isnt mentioned.

NOL fanWhy is Y2K on the overblown fears list for this decade? All the fear about it was in the 90s

Ironman92The top 10 albums...horrible...horrible
I agree with Kelly Clarkson's....and not much else.
Glad to see Bob freaking Dylan make the #2 spot.....OK -
namod65I only remembered like one of the "most memorable movies" LOL. That category was horribly done.
-
2kool4skoolPutting The Wire #1 makes up for any other problem I may have with any of the lists. Phenomenal choice of a criminally underrated television show.
-
dlazzThe most memorable movies list is a joke.
-
SonofanumpNewsweek is a joke. Most of the lists are jokes.
