Oral Roberts dies at age 91
-
justincredibleOk, that's not true. My mom and wife are both lefties.
-
tk421Lefties are the Devil.
-
GoPensGood grief, those guys were so dense to think that I was attacking Oral only because he was a preacher? Get a clue.
-
joebaseballWhile reading this post I started to laugh and realized how little I know about ORU other than they usually have a pretty good baseball team. So I decided to do a little research, most of the info about Oral Roberts was his obit. and stuff like that but I had no idea of the scandal in 2007 where is family was abusing the money given to the university.
Then I ran across this piece of info
http://rss.msnbc.msn.com/id/34435346/ns/us_news-faith/His ministry hit upon rocky times in the 1980s. There was controversy over his City of Faith medical center, a $250 million investment that eventually folded, and Roberts' widely ridiculed proclamation that God would "call me home" if he failed to meet a fundraising goal of $8 million. A law school he founded also was shuttered. -
eersandbeersAnother so called "Christian" scam artist gone and the world is none the worse for it.
-
TinkertrainIf their is a god and he is just i'm sure that Oral is burning in hell right now.

Watch it...you're just picking on him because he's a preacher...eersandbeers wrote: Another so called "Christian" scam artist gone and the world is none the worse for it. -
SQ_CraziesI'm picking on him because he's a fucking douche bag and his ass is hotter now than it ever was here. Hope his family enjoys their money because they fucked a lot of other people over to get it. And to some extent, same on those stupid fucks that gave him money too--but they at least meant well.
Did I drop the f-bomb enough to be understood? -
Upper90I do wish his family peace and etc., but I don't at all dig what the dude stood for.
-
zambrownI have no use for any of the televangelists that bilk true people of faith out of their hard earned money in the name of another Mercedes for themselves. I won't go so far so to say he should burn in hell, but I will certainly say that when his judgement day came, he's got some serious 'splaining to do.

I have no real issue with the idea that people will be rewarded some type of material wealth here on earth for a good reason.cbus4life wrote: No, they have that view of him because they know the type of views he espoused in his preaching.
May he rest in peace, but i'm not going to go so far as to say i think he did "many good things."
The whole "prosperity gospel" is BS, and he's just one of many televangelists who have used it to their advantage. They enrich themselves through it, nothing more, nothing less. The whole idea that God will reward his followers with material riches is disturbing, and un-Christian, IMO. Such a BS American way of looking at it. I'm sure the Christians throughout the world suffering of hunger and poverty would disagree with that sentiment. The fact that he claimed that they would be rewarded ON THIS EARTH with material success is ridiculous.
If everyone who has a certain belief system lives in total poverty and appears to anyone with half a brain to be in squalor and misery, how receptive would you be to whatever they tell you? If a homeless guy comes up to you and evangelizes, are you honestly telling me that your first thought isn't something like, "Yeah, God loves you so much that you live in a cardboard box and haven't showered in a year"?
For once I agree with you.football71 wrote: This website is populated with some of the most immature, disrespectful, spoiled brats masquerading as adults that I have ever seen. What miserable lives you must lead. If I had any respect for you, I would actually pity you.
No, but I think everyone on here was told at some point that, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".GoChiefs wrote: So b/c the man passed away people are supposed to pretend that they loved him or something? Of course..after seeing your other post..we now know who is REALLY immature and disrespectful.
Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it. -

And if everyone agreed and only said nice things to each other all the time..this would be one boring ass message board!NNN wrote: No, but I think everyone on here was told at some point that, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

I guess i just don't like the idea that, essentially, "believe in me and i'll give you shit."
You "get shit" through your own endeavors and hard work, and sometimes just dumb luck, religion, i don't believe, should never enter into it.
Just seems ridiculous to me that he would essentially try to convert people by saying, you know, be a good christian and God will reward you with a playstation.
I just don't think any sort of reward should ever enter into the equation, in regards to faith, belief, etc. -

How did I know it was Parsley even before I clicked the link? Picking up where Oral left off...Fred Flintstone wrote: Looks like since Oral passed away another minister is picking up where he left off.

Upper90That link was odd to read. Odd, and slightly disturbing.

CenterBHSFanThis year, the church settled for $3.1 million with a family whose son was spanked at its day-care center in 2006, to the point that his buttocks and legs were covered with welts and abrasions.
The boy, then 2, said he was spanked with a "knife" by a substitute teacher.
WTF?
