  I have a HP Touchpad (the one's that were cleared out last year for $99-$149).
  
  I got the $149 one and can dual boot into webOS or Android.
  
  For $400-$600, wouldn't be buying a tablet since I haev a pc in the basement, a laptop on the main floor...The touchpad is nice when the wife is on the laptop and I'm laying there playing games or checking sports scores, etc (I don't have a smart phone).

  Thanks for the input guys. From the sound of it, unless I would be using it a ton, it doesn't sound like I need it if I have a laptop and smartphone.

  I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and like it for reading and general web browsing. If I had to pay full price at the time of purchase last year, I would have passed. As of right now, the iPad takes the cake with tablets. I am very interested in Windows 8 on ARM. That should make the tablet market interesting.

  The iPad is by far the best tablet. Samsung is catching up with their Android tabs though...
  
  There is supposedly a "Mini" iPad coming out this year that will be about 7.7" as well...
  
  However, the apps that the iPad can run now makes it the clear choice. I loaded my HP Touchpad with ICS and sold it for $250. Used that money to get an iPad 2 once the price dropped...

  Ipad you still can't watch avi, mkv or divx files. I love that about Android that you can. That's why I bought my tablet to watch movies and tv shows during deployment.

  Also, another reason I don't care for my iPad is that I have an iPhone. iPad to me is just a big iPhone.

  iPad over everything. Currently using it to type this out right now but I've also got this little cover keyboard for it and now do all my papers and stuff on it. Absolutely the best tablet hands down

  The problem with this advice, and I've used this line before, is that iPad owners always trumpet their product because they have to internally justify an overpriced paperweight.
  
  Seriously, don't buy a tablet. They are stupid and only boring people with pathetic lives who need useless expensive products to show off to their friends need it.

  Next summer as a second year I'll get money but this summer, like most of my first year classmates, I'm stuck doing an unpaid clerkship for a federal judge here in Tucson.
