Engineering Field
-
YtowngirlinflaJust try to help a few co-workers with information about getting into the Engineering field. Civil, Electrical or Mechanical seems to be the best bets. I know we have a few engineers on here but how are the job outlooks? I looked online and it says faster than average growth but salary seems real good for entry level.
Possibly even looking into Architecture. -
sleeperArchitecture is a dead end business for morons.
Information about getting in to the field? Go to college and get a degree in engineering besides industrial because that's engineering for women. -
justincredibleYou know, the stupidest guy in my fraternity became an architect - after he flunked out of dental school!

Engineering for women meaning its much easier than all other forms of engineering so women get into it and cry when they aren't paid as much as men who got degrees that are actually worth something.sleeper;1147075 wrote:Architecture is a dead end business for morons.

gorocks99Ignore engineering. Psych and women's studies graduates have better pay and more opportunities.

Belly35My daughter a Architect in Chicago and doing very nice. She just moved to a new firm and they have a beer machine in the office .50 a beer.
Like in any career field if you are the best (the very best) at what you do and you're confident in your skills as a professional you have value that companies want....
I deal with engineers, achitects and designers many are very smart and good people but are piss poor business people. -

Did you want me to sugar coat it? I just saved your friend a ton of money by not wasting his time on a dead end degree.Ytowngirlinfla;1147083 wrote:Sleeper you are in full force today. Just trying to get honest (not sleeper) opinions to help my junior sailors.
Haters will always hate I suppose. -
JawbreakerI work at an electrical engineering firm and it is my experience that most of the new graduates don't have a problem finding jobs. Lately it seems most find jobs before they graduate. As long as you come from a respectable engineering school, at least for electrical engineers, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job.

dlazzI work at a civil engineering firm.
They make bank. -
thavoiceBrother got is engineering degree before he enlisted in the Navy. He worked a year in his field and it was just too slow paced for him. He has since did his time and now uses his degree and experience in the military working for some company outta pittsburgh.

sleeperIt's like the people who bitch about me calling out their psych and liberal arts degrees as fraud and a waste of time. They bitch at me because they think I'm being an asshole; and then when they don't find a job they go to grad school like every other psych and liberal art major so they can pile on more debt that they will never pay off and go join OWS and bitch and moan there too.
What a country. -

stephen3108Industrial Engineer from Ohio State. A little thing called Lean/Six Sigma is taking over the manufacturing and service sectors by storm, which is IE based. Have 3 offers for after graduation in spring that range from 65-75K. I'm not crying about it.

Talk to me in 3 years when all the other engineers who took real engineering end up making $120-150k per year and you're still at 65k. -

stephen3108Talk to other IE's from our program that are now Presidents of companies making more than you'll ever dream of. Look up Rob Savage, COO of Taco Bell. I'm sure he disagrees.

Exceptions not the rule. Nice try though. Bill Gates dropped out of college and is one of the top 5 richest men, does that mean all college drop outs are billionaires?stephen3108;1147114 wrote:Talk to other IE's from our program that are now Presidents of companies making more than you'll ever dream of.
