Amazon Prime (Video Streaming)

Does anyone have this?? What is the content like both selection wise and streaming wise.

It just recently came available on PS3, and is cheaper than Netflix. But I dont want to make the switch without feedback. I dont really know much about Amazon Prime at all, so any information is helpful. Appears you get Prime Video Streaming, unlimited, for free with a subscription (80 a year). But what is available??? Looks like they have a VOD service, which is nice I suppose, but I would never use it. I would really be using it for the instant streaming.

Basically, is it better than Netflix??

It has an ok selection. We have prime but really haven't used the streaming much because it wasn't available on the PS3.

Do you have Netflix also? I definitely am not paying for both, but if Prime is close to Netflix, with it being cheaper, Ill go with it.

Prime isn't close to Netflix. The selection is pretty mediocre.

I had a feeling that would be the case. I dont shop enough or buy online to just get Prime for the shipping benefits etc and have the Streaming as a bonus. I would basically be getting it for streaming.

Doing some more research online, and your response, seems as though Ill wait out until their selection grows.

At the very least, at least Netflix has others trying to compete.

I'd get Prime just for the free 2-day shipping on stuff.

Yeah the selection is pretty bad... the only great thing about Prime is the 2 day shipping.

I have Prime, but don't stream. We shop a lot on Amazon, and my wife has a Kindle, so she gets a free ebook every month that she can rent from other Prime subscribers.

I have ordered many things on Amazon (with Prime) that have arrived in one day. Prime is definitely worth it, and eliminates many trips to the store.

Isn't Prime better in the streaming movie department?

    I'm interested, tell me more.

Yeah. I didnt think Id want Prime for the shipping. But all this talk about it being worth it has me interested a bit. Ive only ever really shopped on Amazon around Christmas time, when I can get the cheap shipping promos anyway. Does Amazon carry pretty much everything?

if you have a .edu email address, you can get prime for $40

Nice. I got the Alumni package from IU when I graduated. I think it was a 3 year thing, but if it was 2 Im fucked. But yeah, it gives me my .edu address during its duration. For 40, its easily worth it.

Prime streaming is getting better. They added a few movie studios plus discovery channel in the last few weeks.

Nice, I assume they have plugs as well? One stop shop for anal products would be nice.

You can view the available shows on amazon --- I've done so pretty recently and it is definitely lacking compared to netflix....

It does if you pay the $40 and not do whatever free trial it has.

I consider the streaming to be a perk on top of the free 2 day shipping., not in any way a replacement for Netflix or Hulu plus.

Anything I want/need that isn't an immediate need, I just buy on amazon. Lower price, no minimum price and arrives in 2 days. I have literally bought some pens for school for like $1.29 and got 2 days shipping because my bookstore charges $3.

The big problem I have with Amazon Prime isn't so much the prices or shipping times, it's fucking UPS.

Whether or not they leave a package at my door seems completely random. They left an XBox at my door but left me a notice to come pick up my $20 sharpening stone.

Yeah, thats an issue I have with living in an apartment. Lately, I've been getting this company called "Prestige" (its like a guy in a little conversion van) and they are nice enough to call me on my cell phone before they leave anything to see when I'll be home. Kinda creepy at first, but thats nice customer service.

Recently I've been having stuff delivered to work since I know it'll actually make it.

Yeah, that guy has delivered to me as well. Completely fucked up a book I had delivered to the office. Luckily the return policy is great. I marked it to exchange for a non-damaged book and the new one was here the next day. I just had to return the damaged book within 30 days.
