I have a few friends/relatives at BP, and my grandfather worked Sun Oil. It's one of those jobs that if you don't mind the hours you can live life pretty comfortably. In the words of my boss at my 2nd job "They pay me 30 bucks an hour to stand around for 12."dwccrew;1131128 wrote:I work at Toledo Refining Company (which is owned by PBF Energy) formely the Sun Oil refinery (Sunoco). The one way out in Oregon is BP. Technically we stradle the east side and Oregon, but majority of our refinery is in Oregon (at least all the offices are). -

Are you talking reserves or active like I am now? If active I'm only on the ship m-f and weekends only if I have duty which is 2 weekends straight then 4 weekends off. Reserves I have no idea what they do.Glory Days;1131153 wrote:just saying, if its like the army, you dont always do hands on training. will you spend every weekend on a ship? many times we would come in for drill and spend 2 days watching sexual assault or alcohol power points or some other simple training that leads up to the one weekend to come and do real training. -

What did you go to school for to be a financial analyst?sleeper;1131046 wrote:I work 60-70 hours a week. I've got my regular desk job as a Financial analyst, and then I do some freelance Financial work when I get home. I make good money and I like what I do. -

Me?
I did a quick search for any posts by me that mentioned "Jesus" within the past year and turned up nothing. While I'm an unabashed person of faith, don't you think it's a bit of a stretch to portray me as some sort of Bible-thumper?
If you're ever out in the Milwaukee area, let me know, and I'd be happy to buy you lunch. -

mucalum49Usually work like 7:45-5 with about a 90 minute break, we're pretty lenient on lunch breaks. I work for a subsidiary of Newell Rubbermaid as a Demand Planner/general supply chain contact. I got stuck being the analyst, demand planner and buyer for 7 of my 15 months at this job so now I tend to be a general point of reference for a lot of different crap that we see come in. Guess it makes me well rounded? I'd like to get into a consulting/project mgmt job one day.

I could've swore it was him. Either way, I hate him because his name is pink and he lives in Wisconsin.SportsAndLady;1131335 wrote:He literally has never done that on here.
Edit: It was otrap who I'm thinking of. My comment above stands. -
Cat Food Flambe'I don't have regular hours. I'm essentially an in-house risk-management consultant for a health insurance company - since I have groups of assigned clients on both coasts, I need to be available from about 9am until 9 pm Eastern Time The company gives me a laptop, an I-phone, and pays for my air card/home internet costs - I can work from home, at a remote location, or in my office pretty much as I please -as long as you can get in touch with me quickly.
I usually work from around 9 am until about 4pm, and spend an hour or two at home in the evening answering calls/e-mail. Occasionally, there are 12-hours days and some weekend work, especially from December to March, but during the summer and fall I can usually get by working 5-6 hours a day. I travel about once every three weeks for 2-3 days, primarily to the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest. Rough life,
Look - it took me 25 years and two degrees to get this job!!!! -

The hours really aren't that bad. I mean they are 12 hour shifts, but (this is not factoring any ot that may come our way) you work 4 12's one week and 3 12's the next week. Lately our ot has been slower and I have had so much time to myself on my days off that I get bored.
I'm not sure when your grandfather worked at Sun, but in the 80's they changed the schedules and it isn't nearly as bad as it once was.
And you are correct, you can live VERY comfortably. They compensate us well. -

friendfromlowryRespiratory therapist, night shift. 7pm til 7am two nights a week, 11pm til 7am the other two. Not really crazy about working night shifts but the job was offered to me before I even graduated and well, you'd be crazy to turn down a full-time job and more importantly the opportunity to accrue some experience.

mcburg93Used to be busy all the time with a full time job and then all my side work. Now since I lost my job just doing side work, really just work when a job comes around.

iclfan2I am a CPA with a Big 4 acct firm. I work 8am-6pm during the off periods, 8am -7pm or 8pm during quarters and in January and February it's basically 8am to anytime from 10pm to 1am. It is terrible during "busy" season and I don't really like the profession in general, and we def don't get compensated enough for the ridiculous hours. But it looks good on a resume?
