HBO movie "Game Change"

  • dwccrew
So has anyone else seen this? It is a historical drama made by HBO about the McCain campaign in 2008, specifically about Sarah Palin running as VP. I thought it was pretty funny how stupid they tried to make her. I mean, I think she is rather "airheadish", but she couldn't possibly be as dumb as they made her out to be in this film, could she?

If this should be moved to the politics forum a mod should do it, but I am not really meaning it to be a political thread.

I watched it and I truly believe she is that dumb. I think McCain would have won if he didn't pick her.

I haven't seen the entire movie, just parts here and there, and the scene where they're preparing her for the debate is hilarious - she was so under qualified and she came off as an idiot.

Makes me want to do her even more.

Sad that she is ten times more qualified than the current POTUS, and it shows with the direction we heading. He is getting better of not reading off of a teleprompter.

But is she in the 98th percentile of March Madness brackets???

    I think not.

Just what we need... a POTUS who prefers jump shots being drilled more than oil.

I thought the movie was pretty solid.

And yes, I do believe that she is as dumb as they portrayed her in the movie. Steve Schmidt said the movie was dead on.

I do think it's funny that both Palin and McCain said the movie was completely exaggerated, even though both admitted that they haven't watched (and don't plan to watch) the movie.

I haven't watched it yet but I'm sure they portrayed her as much more dumb than she really is. I don't think she is a scholar but I don't think she is an airhead either.

Pundits and polling said she beat Biden in that debate, so I dont know what your talking about...McCain even got a bounce in polling after that nights debate.

    And remember...

McCain was beating Obama up until mid September when McCain foolishly suspended his campaign to return to Washington to monitor the financial fallout on Wall Street, only to do nothing about the issue and Obama pouncing on it.

I watched it and was impressed by the acting. By the end of it, I forgot I was watching Juliann Moore. Woody was also pretty good, and Ed Harris wasn't bad either.

For the story, I take it with a grain of salt, but from my understanding, it was largely accurate. I also don't believe it painted a negative portrait of Palin. Anyone that paid attention knew she wasn't prepared. (One of the reasons why I switched my vote). But, she was great on the stump and in prepared remarks.
The reaction of all the media attention to her family was about right and pretty sad to see.

Overall, a nice bit of entertainment on the 2008 campaign.

I am not a big Palin apologist. It was obvious she was not prepared to be vp. However, anyone who believes she is as stupid as portrayed in the movie that person is as stupid as they make her look in the movie.

Still waiting for the Smilen' Biden biopic of his antics being last in the class of Delaware undergrad and last in a (toilet tiered) law school of Syracuse.

Not a Palin fan, but she has at lead 15 IQ points ahead of idiot Joe.

    Soooooo.....Steve Schmidt is stupid?

What the fuck does he know? He only LIVED THE FUCKING MOVIE IN REAL LIFE. That doesn't align with my personal beliefs about politics though, so I'm going to say he's wrong.

LOL. Tried to rep you, but I have to spread it around a little first.

Quote from Steve Schmidt regarding the movie:
“I think it was very accurate,” Schmidt acknowledged. “For all of us in the campaign, it really rang true. It gave you a little bit of PTSD at times. It did for me.

Was some of it exaggerated somewhat? Probably. But I think, based on the reactions to the movie, that it stayed pretty true to life. That's not a knock on Palin. She just wasn't ready. She should have never been put in the position that she was. Had the vetting process gone the proper way, they wouldn't have even cleared her and everyone here in the continental US would still have no idea who the fuck she is.

Quote from Nicole Wallace regarding the movie:
[LEFT]Wallace said Sunday that “Game Change” was ”true enough to make me squirm.”

God, I wish these stupid people (who lived through this) weren't so stupid to think that Sarah Palin is a dumb as she's portrayed in the movie.
  • bigdaddy2003
Anyone who thinks she is actually dumb probably doesn't listen to her speak very often. They hear it on MSNBC or Bill Maher and run with it. Was she ready to be VP in 08? No, but she isn't dumb. I have listened to sound clip after sound clip of her on The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity and still can't figure out what she says that makes her dumb. I don't agree with Joe Biden but I wouldn't call him dumb. He has had twice as many gaffes as she has and he is the vice president.

Yeah, if Palin is the idiot the left thinks she is then what in the world do they say about Biden behind closed doors? He has made 2 to 3 times more gaffes than Palin. Hell even the messiah has made dumb statements or gaffes. Like I said I don't think she is a scholar but she certainly isn't an airhead. She just wasn't ready in 08.

The funny thing is, to me at least, that our presidential campaign will always be about who can get the most votes. "oh you have had a kid and are a single mom, you will make me get more votes"

How about this, get someone that knows what the fuck he/she is talking about when it comes to fixing our economy and leave us no choice but to vote for them. The fact that he choice palin because she was a woman and had kids was just a cop out to get more votes. i'm glad he didn't get elected for that sole reason.

She took 5 colleges and 6 years to get a Journalism degree...

I'd take that over a moron graduating from the bottom of his class at Syracuse law, back in the day when any male idiot was admitted to law school.

Biden is a moron. If he has an IQ above 90 I'd be shocked.

Julianne Moore is one of the best out there IMO. From Boogie Nights to Hannibal to The Kids are Alright to Game Change, she can play very diverse roles and has great range.

So the score is 30 to 15.
