Get ready to hand over your facebook username and password.

    Simple solution. Don't use Facebook.
  • dlazz
I'd politely tell them to fuck off.

Same with those employers that make you take one of those dumbass 1-2hr "personality surveys" where they ask you the same question 5 different ways.

I'm not, even though I am unemployed. I enjoy living off of society.

But for real, I would never work for a company that required my facebook password. Fuck them.

Or tell them to fuck off. I'll look for employment elsewhere.

Until last year, the city of Bozeman, Mont., had a long-standing policy of asking job applicants for passwords to their email addresses, social-networking websites and other online accounts.
I suppose you could create a dummy email account for this, but that is more access than I'm willing to hand over. What if they ask to go through your house and inspect your dirty underwear?

Bozeman can piss off. Anyone that hands over their passwords is a pussy.

    +1

I don't want to a work for someone that would request that anyway.

I bet they wouldn't want you as an employee if you wouldn't hand it over.

It sounds like the agreement would be mutual.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Asking for that info has nothing do to with my qualifications to do a job, that would be an instant turnoff for that company.

    Whats next? My Gmail password?

Next will be an inquiry inside your sex life. Can tell a lot about a man.

I appreciate you pointing out the obvious sentiment that it would be a turn off of that company. :)

It's clear they don't want a representative of the company who has the desire to be a derelict in their own time. It's good to know early that you won't be a match at that company anytime you're interviewing. It allows you to spend resources on another company that would be a match.

Ive never understood what my personal life has to do with my work life?

If this becomes the norm, Ill just make a 2nd account. This will never work the way an employer wants it to.

What does being a derelict have to do with not giving up your password? Personal shit in my email is just that, personal. What I discuss in my emails is absolutely no business of a potential employer. Seriously, anyone that gives up their passwords should die in a fire.

I'd tell them I'd accept their "friendship request" once they employed me and then they could see everything privately they wanted to. :D

How bad does it have to get in order to live with society? I mean shit Justin, I think I would go for a van by the river, or an overpass, or just shoot myself....

    He's actually very giving.

This doesn't even seem like it could be legal to ask in an interview. Where does it end? As others on this thread have said, e-mail passwords? Bank account info.? Home inspections? This is a terrible idea for employers to try and access this type of information.
