She was hotter in HS when could have gotten a nice pay check from Nike for the below pic- She said no. Derp.chicago510;1113893 wrote:

Full scholarship v.s. Nike paycheck. For some reason I don't think Nike's paycheck for a HS pole vaulter would cover 4-5 years of education at Cal Berkeley.said_aouita;1113941 wrote:She was hotter in HS when could have gotten a nice pay check from Nike for the below pic- She said no. Derp.
I could be wrong though. -

Not sure how much the check was supposedly for but you are right. If she was full scholarship for all four years of college, most likely she did make the right decision.like_that;1113950 wrote:Full scholarship v.s. Nike paycheck.

$150k? Maybe $200k with room & board? That's chump change for Nike. My guess is she didn't want to give-up her college eligibility.said_aouita;1113959 wrote:Not sure how much the check was supposedly for but you are right. Maybe she can parlay this into something like Jennifer Sturges did. Could be the photo, but I'd agree the HS one looks better than the more recent ones. And I don't mind the fitness look, but she's a little too on the muscular side in that one pic, which again could just be the photo. -

Yea. I'm wondering if she actually is full scholarship all four years?gut;1113981 wrote:$150k? Maybe $200k with room & board? That's chump change for Nike. My guess is she didn't want to give-up her college eligibility.

(edit) found out she placed 8th at NCAA Indoors. Outdoors she was 14th at her NCAA region.
Junior (2010): Earned MPSF All-Academic (indoors), USTFCCCA All-Academic and honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic (outdoors) honors ... recorded a season-best vault of 13-5.25 at the NCAA West Preliminary Meet to finish 14th, just missing a berth to NCAAs (top 12 advance) ... placed eighth at the Pac-10 Championships (12-6.25) ... during the indoor season, recorded an NCAA provisionary height of 13-5.75 ... fifth at the MPSF meet (13-1.50).
This, unless she is scoring 10 every meet. I bet she isn't full ride.georgemc80;1113995 wrote:Chances are college coaches are not going to invest a full ride for any athlete that is solely one event.
No doubt about it. Respect her for wanting to compete. All-Academic=she must get decent grades.gut;1113991 wrote: Don't know her family's financial situation. My guess is she wanted to compete and didn't need the money. . -

Didn't even think of that. Doubtful she was on full scholarship, although Cal probably has one of the better funded track programs?said_aouita;1113985 wrote: Not sure if she actually was full scholarship all four years?
Don't know her family's financial situation. My guess is she wanted to compete and didn't need the money. Heck, Nike might have even low-balled her. Sometimes companies cash-in on passing fads like that by making an offer they know will be rejected, but still get the publicity. Of course, that's the first I heard she turned down Nike. -
georgemc80Chances are college coaches are not going to invest a full ride for any athlete that is solely one event. At any given meet, the best they get is 10 points. 10 points are not equal to a full ride. I would suspect she has a combination of schollys both academic and athletic.

Maybe the coach gets benefits for the full ride, like a full ride?like_that;1114031 wrote:Title IX/Women's sports is a joke. I am willing to bet she got a full ride.
