US gov't claims right to seize any .com domain

What effect will this have on piracy, online gambling, and counterfeit goods?

US won't have to worry about other countries extraditing citizens; sounds like they'll just go in and snatch 'em.

A few readers have asked why .com is under US jurisdiction, given its worldwide use. A good question, and one I should have addressed the first time around. The short, obnoxious answer is: the US made the Internet, so it gets to make the rules.

The same effect it's been having.

The US government already seizes any domain they want. Now they're just officially claiming they have the right to do it.
