Power naps

  • Belly35
Many years ago in the military I started to trained myself to take Power Naps. I can do this for 10 to 20 minutes and then wake myself up, I do this now three times a day. I can sometime do this for longer and wake myself up in the morning ( note: doesn’t always happen and I over sleep).

Does anyone else take Power Naps?

A lot of times, if I have evening plans after a day at the office, I like a 15-30 minute power nap between the two. It usually isn't a real nap. Kinda more like resting my eyes, but I usually very briefly enter REM sleep...just enough to be in this "kinda awake, but kinda dreaming" zone.

It's been a while since I've actually taken a nap. No way I could do it for 10-20 minutes.

Righ! I know . For me it is almost like once I get to that point of a REM sleep then I know it time to wake up.
It is almost like the REM sleep trigers the wake-up.

How close are you to waking yourself up at the correct time you wanted? I'm within 2 to 3 minutes

    I have a job...:)

I can't sleep at night, I can't take a nap during the day. College days are LONG gone.

Let's put it this way. I'm good enough at waking up when I want that I have no problems power napping regardless of how important whatever I'm doing in the evening is. If I'm actually worried because I feel legitimately tired, I'll set the alarm, but I can't remember the last time I've even done that.

I’ve been doing Power Nap from my military days and my daughter who is now 27 years old also learned to take Power Naps as an Architectural Student putting in long hours of studio time. Other famous people have been documented being trained to take Power Naps noted JFK ..

Me! My current work schedule has me getting off work around 3:15, which means I get home at 4 or later. My daughter wakes up around 7 or 7:30, so I power nap pretty much any chance I get. I usually wake up within about 5 minutes of what I planned.

It is actually better to take a few 2-3 hour naps during the entire day than it is to sleep a full 8-9 hours through...

A lot of times people can sleep for 7+ hours and still wake up feeling groggy and this is because of REM. You have an REM cycle roughly every 1 1/2 hours while a sleep, so timing your sleep around those will have you feeling much better upon awakening.

With that said, I have absolutely no time to nap and probably haven't taken a nap since I was a toddler.

Don't do naps, seems like I'm more tired if I do. I just get my 6 - 8 at night and am good.

I don't like naps. They don't refresh me. I just feel more tired after getting up from one.

I am the queen of the power nap. I can go home at lunch and get a good 15-20 minute nap, wake up and feel way better. If I don't nap, about 3:00 I'm so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open.
