  I zoomed all of the way in and then slowly zoomed outward. It didn't take very long for me to feel shockingly insignificant.
  
  If you can do that and still think we are alone in the universe, then I have no words for you. Stuff like this also crushes the vast majority of atheistic thoughts I often have.

  #2...explain how stuff like this crushes the atheistic thoughts you often have? I have them too (even though I was raised Christian). So convince me why I should believe that the size of the universe proves that there is a God.

  I don't understand crushing athestic thoughts, but hey whatever helps you. I would think feeling insignificant would be at odds with religion and faith. Isn't faith supposed to make you feel important in being part of god's "plan" and all that?

  That was cool. Reminded me of a bit in either the second or third Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book where Zaphod reaches some area that has broken everyone's mind who has entered. The place is a huge map of all the galaxy with a little "you are here" sign that caused everyone to realize how insignificant in the grand scheme of things and be broken. Except for Zaphod, who looked at the "you are here" sign's location on the map and decided that was proof he was the center of the universe, so instead of being broken, he just got more of an ego. Good times.

  Very interesting, the only problem I have is the things on there, both on the sub-atomic particle level, and the astronomical level, that they do not know for sure exists.
  
  For instance, as odd as it may sound, an "ort cloud" is just plain theory, one has NEVER been observed or seen by any telescope. It is a simple guess/theory on how comets are created.

  Well I've never been a Creationist and personally can't stand the idea.
  
  For me it's not necessarily the huge size, it's the opposite end of the spectrum. I dunno, a lot of atheists point to science and say "look religious people said _____ was how it all was and that is simply untrue so it is all false." I tend to think "you can break an atom down to electrons/protons/etc and you can break that down into yadda yadda and hat breaks down into a quark and that breaks down into a ____." Just the fact that it keeps going and the sheer complexity of it is astounding to me. Then I'm supposed to think it's been like that for an eternity? This stuff has always just existed? I dunno, I don't think it's any crazier to believe in a supreme something than to believe this all just existed. What is the big bang? Who the fuck did that?
  
  
  I don't think it's a specific endorsement of God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, or an afterlife. But the insane complexity of it all and yeah, the huge scope of the universe, just makes me numb in amazement. For me, science does an equal amount of supporting the idea of a omnipotent something as it does supporting atheism. I don't know how you could look at this stuff and be 100.00% sure than nothing set it all in motion. Where did we come from? Monkey, okay...and them? Eventually you break it down to carbon and water and atoms and subatomic particles and all the way down to quarks and shit...and where did that come from? It. Just. Keeps. Going.

  Gravity is a theory too. What's your point? Ort Cloud is pretty much a given.

  Actually no its not...and you are comparing something that is observable (gravity) to something that has never been observed.
  
  Also, gravitation effects are a scientific law, check out Newton. The only part that is theory is HOW IT WORKS (like the graviton, etc).

  You can ask the same question about what started the "Big Bang" in the atheistic view. What made the bang happen and how did the original material/energy get there?
  
  To be honest, in the end believing in a supreme being that started it all and believing that it all came from nothing requires the same level of "faith" no matter how much many want to deny it.
