Snow skis??

  Looking to buy some snow skis in the next year. Just bought boots last week in Northern Michigan on a ski trip, and my wife and I are both looking at buying skis. Where does the OC like to go to Demo skis, and what time of year is the best to do it at what place do you like to demo equipment at in Northern or Central Ohio? Western NY? WV? Western PA? MI?
  
  I do not get many opportunities to ski due to work conflict, (the harder the winter, the more free time I have) but I do like it a bunch. Who do you trust with your ski equipment. Looking on-line at all mountain packages in the intermediate+ categories, but due to not skiing a ton I do not wan't to put a fortune in them, yet I want something to continue to improve my skill for an old, fat, fitty year old... LOL. I am willing to buy at a ski shop and pay more than on-line price to get proper fit skis for me.
  
  I am thinking with the poor ski weather this year sales may be down and at a certain time one may find great deals on 2012 equipment... before next season stuff comes out... what time of year does this happen.

  How close are you to Columbus? Aspen Ski & Board has a huge 2 day sale in the summer.....sometime in August. You can get a package for close to 50% off. It's definitely worth waiting.

  Never buy new skis...come late March Ebay will be flooded with 1 & 2 yr old equipment. Play It Again Sports also usually has many skis.

  What is your age height weight ability? What are you going to ski most? For me I buy skis that will perform on my trips out west where it matters. In NY and Ohio it doesn't really matter what you are on. It does depends if you are on the east coast v west coast most of the time in the ice and whether you ski the groomers all the time etc. Also what do you ski on now?

  They have an expo sometime at Mad River Mountain. I remember years past (as mentioned above) a year or two older model being silly cheap.

  Mostly going to ski at Boyne Highland Resort in MI... I will try to ski in Oh, PA and NY whenever I get a chance... do not see a West trip in the near future. Level is advancing... went skiing a few times a couple of times twenty years ago, but the last two years we have gone on a family ski trip that included 9 hours of instruction each year and have progressed to skiing fairly comfortably on the black diamonds.
  
  Overweight for my 5'9" body, but looking at something in the 170-175 length that is fairly versatile ski.... so many options out there, but I want to actually use them before I buy them. As nice as the weather is here right now I can't get away from work to go try skis that I may be able to buy at a discount later in the summer. Might have to just wait and try some out when we go to MI next year so that I can try them on the trails I will use them on most. I though I might be able to steal a day around here to try some out within a few hours from here (Northern East-Central Ohio) Not so lucky though. I am busy enough with work on the weekends coming up, even if we have some snow here, I will have work obligations.

  If that is the case I would get your basic all moutain ski, or even a race ski. You will have more fun with those on the hills you are on. I would recommend a 175-180 length, short skis will allow you to ski with poor form and you will go faster with longer skis as well. Just find a free demo day or pay the shop at the hill to demo (usually 50 bucks) The race skis will be the most fun in MI/OH/NY without a doubt.
