One thing this proves to me, is that I didn't watch nearly enough movies this year. Haven't seen any of these. I'll plan to watch at least a few of the BP nominees in the next month or so though. -
sjmvsfscs08Meryl Streep is a lock, IMO.
Not a lot of good movies this year, unfortunately. I don't think any of those films deserve to be Best Picture. I did enjoy Moneyball a lot though. -
McFly1955The Artist --- Won't see it...
The Descendants --- Waiting for Netflix
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close --- Waiting for Netflix
The Help --- Very good movie
Hugo --- Waiting for Netflix
Midnight in Paris --- Glowing reviews gave me high expectations, wife and I both were not impressed
Moneyball --- Awesome
The Tree of Life --- Haven't seen it
War Horse --- Haven't seen it
From what I hear, the winner will probably be The Descendants...I'll be watching it and some of the others above soon, but my favorite that I've seen was Moneyball.. -
chicago510Everyone I hear says "The Artist" is a lock. No way in hell I'm watching that though.
-
gorocks99Is it because it's a silent movie? B/C honestly out of all the ones listed I'm probably most wanting to watch that one.
-
gerb131Have only seen Moneyball of all those movies
-
Laley23Decendants I think will win Best Picture. Moneyball, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were very good. The Help is supposedly great, but Ive never seen it. Saw Midnight in Paris, and it was entertaining and a new type of movie in a sense, but nowhere near Oscar worthy.

Its French, silent and Black and white. None of those say "watch this" to me.gorocks99;1063988 wrote:Is it because it's a silent movie? B/C honestly out of all the ones listed I'm probably most wanting to watch that one. -
Laley23Yeah, no way in hell Im watching The Artist. Maybe if it goes to Instant Watch on Netflix Ill play it knowing I didnt pay and can turn it off immediately when I get pissed at it, lol.
-
like_thatHaven't seen all the movies, but if Nick Nolte won best supporting actor for his role in Warrior, he def deserved it.
-
McFly1955

gorocks99I enjoyed a film with two out of three of those characteristics (Diabolique) so I guess I just have different tastes.

Commander of AwesomeHaven't seen the Artist yet though I plan on seeing it tomorrow or Thursday after work. The Descendants was amazing and if it weren't for the Artist I would say its a lock. Its a crying shame that Drive wasn't nominated, esp with shit like Extremely Loud being nominated. I haven't seen War Horse but I highly doubt it deserved it over Drive either which IMO was the second best movie this year.
Also while Moneyball was good, it doesn't derserve to be on this list IMO. -
that_guyMy movie watching has taken a huge downturn in the past few years, I used to see at least one movie every week, now it's down to less than 10 a year. That's due both to lack of time on my part, and few movies being released that are compelling enough for me to see in the theater....
I do hate the new format of so many nominees (yet what I thought was the best movie of the year was somehow left off).
I'm very dissappointed that Girl with a Dragon Tatoo wasn't nominated, that was by far the best movie I've seen this year. I also think the Olson girl deserved a Best Actress nominee for Mary May Marlene Marcy.
Of the nominees I've seen:
The Descendants- Seen it, it's a good movie, but shouldn't be in the conversation of that best movie of the year. A few years back it'd be tough to put this in a Top 20 of the year list. Well made, fun to watch, but no lasting impact.
The Help- Another good movie that I pretty much forgot about a few hours after seeing it. Reminded me of Blind Side, fun to watch, crowd pleasing, but in my mind shouldn't be in the discussion for an Oscar.
Hugo- Very good movie, I didn't think I'd like it at all but it ended up as my 2nd best movie of the year. For once the use of 3D enhanced the movie, without being distracting.
Midnight in Paris- I was dragged to this one by my Fiance, was not looking forward to it, as I rarely like Woody Allen movies. This one was very solid and fun to watch. The portrayal Hemingway was my favorite part of the movie...
The Tree of Life- I went to this one over the summer, and the general vibe and some images from the movie still stick with me. The cinematography was great, but overall I just didn't get this movie. I typically struggle with slow paced esoteric movies, and this one definitely belongs in that category.
I plan to see Moneyball, The Artist and Extremly Loud & Incredibly Close in the near future. I might see War Horse, but am not really looking forward to it, I hate movies that have animals as the main subject.... -

TiernanWar Horse won't win but it is a flick that will be revered 25 - 30 yrs from now much like Wizard of Oz and Its a Wonderful Life were first panned and are now timeless classics.
The Artist is a cheap stunt made by pretentious rich artsy assholes trying to make the rest of us look stupid. Do not go see this shit and give these people money. -

you seriously think they started to pitch the idea and said "we are going to make this movie to make the rest of america look stupid?" -
MulvaI've never seen any of those. I thought the Help and War Horse both looked cheesy as hell.
Interested in the Descendents and Hugo, but not in a huge rush to watch either. -
