Myrtle Beach, SC

I am planning on going down here the first week of March with my GF and some of her friends for spring break. As for right now I know of 4 of us that are going might be a few more. Any one have any good hotels/resorts to stay at that aren't super expensive I'm dealing with a bunch of college kids lol. Currently looking at Hotel Blue and the Captains Quarters Resort.

Many years before you were born we stayed at Captain's Quarters. It had a bowling alley on the 6th or 8th floor (so if they still have that you might not want the floor above or below it?). It wasn't new in 1986. Pretty centrally located. Never have been there in the spring. Do people actually go in the ocean at that time of the year?

Also stayed at the Caravelle, maybe 8-10 years ago. Also not bad, also not new. Sounds like you will have a good time, no matter where you stay.

Rent a house or condo there for the week it's cheaper and you don't have to deal with any staff

We used to go down every year, but we just made it back down there this year for the first time in like 3-4 years.

It has really gone downhill. Lots of old trashy looking houses/ hotels, lots of ghetto people running around and the hotels aren't nearly as nice anymore.

We're not going back for a while again. I think we're going to Virginia Beach this year

Myrtles worthless unless you're going to golf. Find a different beach.

...My experience going down there the first week of March (to play golf) is that it's not quite beach weather (unless you're one of those crazy Canadians). Temps avg around 50-65 for highs and the ocean is f'ng cold. If you guys do play golf, you'll enjoy MB, otherwise head further South.

This. Honestly, I'd head farther south. It won't be warm enough to really do beach stuff in March.

Jekyll Island is a great place to go

Thanks for the advice guys... Im going with a bunch girls so there probably won't be any golfing. And yeah we figured it would be cold but they just want to get away as its their senior years and all. We mostly were thinking Myrle because it wasn't to far of a drive and had always heard it was pretty nice... guess thats not the case anymore lol.

Hilton head is a lot nicer and not much further

I have gone the last couple of years and stayed at Camelot. Perfect location, you can walk anywhere. They are actually condos, so they are kept pretty clean.

Additional 4 hours? Maybe if u travel by horse and buggy...lol. It's only an extra hour or so.

Its about 200 miles south of Myrtle, So in Beach traffic , 4 Hours is a fair estimate
  • sportchampps
ill split the difference and say an extra 2.5 hours

Charleston is two hours South of myrtle on highway 17. Hilton Head is further South than that. Now it might be less than 4 taking a main highway instead of 17 but it has to be more than 2 hours.

Been to both places. It took about 10hrs to Myrtle and 11hrs to Hilton Head. There's less than 100 miles difference. The 200 miles would be between Myrtle and Hilton Head, which is not the route you would take. Hit 95 out of Raleigh and it takes you right there.

Mapquest has 3 main options listed all of them over 4 Hours, closest distance is 198 miles and thats all beach front Rd, Slow Traffic.

Ahh I wasn't thinking about how damn long it takes to get over to myrtle from 77 or 95. You are correct about it only being a little more than an hour, and probly better than myrtle for a chill vacation. Broadway at the beach for a bunch of college kids might be a little more their speed though. I'd do the extra hour if the weather was much warmer.
