Movies always change stuff that was in the book. After hollywood changes it ya probably have Lincoln banging some black chick, and Lee Harvy Oswald was someone sent back from the future by hitler to try and stop what Lincoln was doing.SnotBubbles;1059237 wrote:Is it based on actual events?

Audible website says O'Reilly. Trying to finish others before I download, don't want to use my monthly credit yet.
You can listen to audio samples on audible.com -
ptown_trojans_1I will not and have not read this book, it has way too many errors. One of them is there was a meeting in the Oval Office, hello that wasn't created until the 20th century. It flies in the face of historical writings.

so I take it then that you will not be seeing the movie where president lincoln hunts vampires -

lol, that is not being promoted a history, but entertainment. The Killing Lincoln book was marketed as a historical piece to add to the genre of Lincoln. But, any historian that reads it quickly finds numerous errors that take away from the validity of the story.gport_tennis;1060967 wrote:so I take it then that you will not be seeing the movie where president lincoln hunts vampires
And yes, I will probably see the movie.
I'll also probably see Spielberg's portray of Lincoln with Daniel Day Lewis as Lincoln in December. -
GoPensI can't wait to see DDL as Lincoln.
I also won't read this book because I too have heard it's full of errors.
A good Lincoln read is "Manhunt: The 12-Day Search for Lincoln's Killer" by James Swanson. -

Probably should just give him the Oscar all ready. That movie is going to be sweet -

Cause Bill O'Reilly will have all the facts from something 200 years ago??? I get what you are saying, but books like this are always full of inaccuracies as well. But its worse because people think its all true. At least in movies we know going in they are changing stuff from history for entertainment.thavoice;1059265 wrote:Movies always change stuff that was in the book. Are these the errors you are talking about? lol
“The narrative contains numerous errors of people, place, and events,” writes reviewer Edward Steers Jr., author of more than five books on the Lincoln assassination. He goes on to list about 10 errors of fact in “Killing Lincoln,” which O’Reilly co-authored with Martin Dugard and which has been atop bestseller lists for weeks.
A farm where John Wilkes Booth hid after the killing was not 500 acres, as O’Reilly says. It was 217 acres, according to the review.
O’Reilly refers to John Ford’s chief carpenter as John J. Clifford. In fact, according to the review, his name was Gifford.
“Lewis Powell, the man assigned to kill secretary of state William Seward, did not speak with ‘an Alabama drawl.’ He was from Florida,” the review notes
In one instance, the book claims Ford's Theatre was burned down in 1863 when it was actually destroyed in the end of 1862. The book contains multiple references to Lincoln in the Oval Office, which wasn't built until decades after his death. It also includes the line "He furls his brow"; furl is a nautical term, the correct word is furrows.
O'Reilly's response:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/political-bookworm/post/oreilly-says-errors-corrected-in-killing-lincoln/2011/11/15/gIQA66MpON_blog.html
Oliver Stone would be proud to have that few of mistakes.
