    It's James Cameron.....of course I'll see it.

And if it's bad, I'll get over it.

I usually do not like these types of movies, but I just cannot believe that James Cameron would put out a bad film. Especially since he has worked so hard on it.

It's not my cupt of tea, but I might see it just because of the technology.

I think it looks sweet. I've never actually seen a movie in an imax but if we had one around i would definitely go. Also, can't wait to watch it in blue ray.

    7 of my friends saw.

    5 loved it.
1 said it was the best movie she has ever seen (she went to the 3D showing)
1 said it was pretty good.

According to reports it grossed 27 million on Friday alone. I was going to see it but the theater put a "$2.00 surcharge" on tickets. That kind of pissed me off.

Bad weekend to open a movie given that tens of millions of potential moviegoers in the I-95 corridor likely aren't thinking about the movies right now.

From what I've read, great visuals, lackluster and cliched story, which matches my expectations from watching the trailers. I hope Cameron isn't turning into George Lucas, but with dialogue such as "We're not in Kansas anymore, we're in Pandora" he's definitely approaching Lucas-esque territory.

I'd be surprised if it turns a profit, the 3-D aspect is great for the theater but it doesn't work in the lucrative dvd market.

Yeah, all the theaters are adding that charge for the glasses. I wonder if you just keep the glasses, if they would wave that charge at the next 3d movie....doubt it!

Didn't know about the glasses. I thought they were just raising the prices because it was a popular movie. Whoops....

Oh. Yeah, since the whole 3D thing is becoming the norm.....that surcharge has been in place. I have watched 3 or so movies that were in 3D and all of them had that surcharge.

And you come to this thread why?

Wow, lots of cynics in here. Does the old verbage, "Don't knock it 'til you try it" mean anything...?

Just got back from seeing, "Avatar", and while the story wasn't groundbreaking, nearly everything else in the movie was. As a graduate with a degree in Visual Communication Technology, the film absolutely captivated me. To those saying they aren't interested in watching "animation", you may want to reconsider. This is - by far - the most stunning and realistic CGI I have ever seen. The critics claiming this as the future and a new era of cinema aren't bullshitting.

Here's an excellent article from WIRED magazine that gives background on the film's development and the creation of the technology and videography Avatar uses; a must-read, in my opinion:

The 2 dollar charge for seeing the movie in 3D has been around for awhile now. I didn't see it in 3D but I want to now...

The movie was very good. Yea the story is nothing truly new but everything else was stunning. The visual effects were incredible and made the world look incredibly realistic. I certainly cracks my top 10 of the year and I will probably go see it again, probably have to pay though this time, and see it in 3D.

I saw it in 3D, which may have contributed to my comments above. I wasn't even aware that viewing it non-3D was an option...

^^^The theater about 2 blocks away from me doesn't have the capabilities of showing it in 3D, so they have a 2D showing. I will just drive the extra half hour and watch it in 3D.
  • imex99
hope to watch tonight or tomorrow.
  • ZeroCool
    ^^^^same here
  • dlazz
I will not be seeing it.

Saw it last night, WOW. I came in with a closed mind, only saw it because my friends dragged me, but I was really impressed, and I really liked the movie.
  • McFly1955
Saw it in 3d yesterday --- frickin awesome.
