After further review, I think that the more the speed limit goes up, the more lives will be lost by accidents. Speed kills, especially with all of the dumb asses texting, emailing, etc. 70 on major highways??? maybe...
Speed was raised to 70 in April. -

There is no comparison of the turnpike to the rest of the highways here in Ohio.ts1227;1050408 wrote:http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/01/10/ohio-turnpike-safest-year-ever.html

How so? The only difference there may be (and even that's questionable if there is one) is maybe less trucks.dave;1050426 wrote:There is no comparison of the turnpike to the rest of the highways here in Ohio. -
bo shemmy3337Your only talking about 5 miles an hour so I really don't care to much. I rarely travel more than 20 miles so at best it is going to save me a min. If everyone went 70 it would be safer and that is a fact as posted above. Its not 70 that is bad it is the people who wont go over 65 then those who have to go 80. letting the people go 70 who would normally go 65 does make a difference or the article above would not be valid.

ytownfootballMajor highways I guess, but our roads suck ass in general in case none of you have noticed.

I would agree but 5 mph is no big deal. The closer the average car is going the better, some going 80 and some going 65 is way worse than 80 to 70 IMO.ytownfootball;1050439 wrote:Major highways I guess, but our roads suck ass in general in case none of you have noticed. -

I wasn't directing my post toward you, but you are right, slower traffic causes more issues than faster or going with the flow traffic, at least in my experience and I drive a ton.bo shemmy3337;1050442 wrote:I would agree but 5 mph is no big deal. 3 lanes, less entrance/exit ramps, less traffic, no cities to drive through although I assume those will stay at 55mph.ts1227;1050428 wrote:How so? The only difference there may be (and even that's questionable if there is one) is maybe less trucks. -

People would text more while driving, accidents would increase 100%, and we would all die. Only the Amish would be left.justincredible;1050411 wrote:Why not a billion? -

Yeah, the 70 would only be in rural areas. I-71 is 3 lane almost the entire way from Cleveland to Columbus, and I think a lot of 75 is too?dave;1050453 wrote:3 lanes, less entrance/exit ramps, less traffic, no cities to drive through although I assume those will stay at 55mph.
In terms of traffic, in my experience anywhere along the turnpike is ALWAYS busier than I-77 is anywhere south of Dover. It just depends on where you are, I wouldn't say the turnpike is always less occupied than all interstates. Some trucks may avoid the turnpike, but I'd say almost all cars do not. -

Pure conjecture. Unless you have a link.bo shemmy3337;1050436 wrote:Your only talking about 5 miles an hour so I really don't care to much. Con_AlmaHow much time is reduced for the average trip at 5MPH faster? 1 - 2 minutes?

Depends. If you're driving an hour or two on the freeway, you save a few minutes. If you're hitting stop signs/lights/etc. (getting to the 70 mph road), I would bet that the average time savings is negligible.Con_Alma;1050969 wrote:How much time is reduced for the average trip at 5MPH faster? 1 - 2 minutes? -

Yep, that's my point. I drive my kids 45 minutes to school each morning. A 5 MPH increase in the speed limit will give us hardly any gain.fan_from_texas;1050985 wrote:Depends. Yea but when you started driving only Indy cars could go 70 mph!Belly35;1050879 wrote:When was it not 70 MPH

exactly. the answer is basically none, unless you run all red lights, stop signs, and drive on the shoulder of the road. i always laugh watching people fly by only to pull up behind them or beside them a few minutes later.Con_Alma;1050969 wrote:How much time is reduced for the average trip at 5MPH faster? 1 - 2 minutes? -

Considering how much time we have until its an issue, this is my thought. But 4 generations from now I wont care. -
Classyposter58Turnpike moves a little better at 70 mph nowadays, semi's used to drive super slow it seemed. Honestly though Michigan is where it's at if you wanna drive fast. Once you hit that border 75 mph is the slow lane
