High School Student Charges Censorship after Yearbook photo Banned
-
OneBuckeye[LEFT]A Colorado high school senior says she was the subject of censorship after her peers on the yearbook staff decided her photo was inappropriate to use as her senior portrait, Fox 31 Denver reports.
Durango High School student Sydney Spies, 18, submitted a photo of herself wearing a short yellow skirt and a black blouse that exposes her shoulders and midriff.
[LEFT]Spies says she thinks the editors made their decision based on pressure from administrators.
She says the picture, which she calls “artistic,” is a good representation of her personality because she’s interested in modeling and photography.

The EqualizerShe's a senior so either she's 18 or I'd have to wait a year, which from the looks of her would be worth it.

I agree. Many schools have a dress code, many of which include a rule against certain length skirts and/or no middriff showing, etc. If the photo would violate a school conduct policy (like if the shirt had cuss words all over it), then I see no problem with the school Year Book from not printing it.Con_Alma;1043633 wrote:Why can't the school censor a product sold with their names on it? -

gport_tennisYou people are nuts if you think this picture is high school appropriate. If some girl would have wore that in my school she would not have been let in the building

I don't see the big deal with this picture. It is a graduation picture and there is nothing crude or demeaning about it. -
