Society...looking at your picture of your filter...it looks considerably easier than the one I bought (made by Keurig) about a year and a half ago. I found using that filter messy and inconsistent. Even if you are not grinding the beans, you have to load just the right amount to get a consistent taste,,,and then you get spillage, you have a small mess to clean, the cup to clean, etc. etc...all for one cup of coffee. I usually don't have a lot of time especially in the mornings, so I find the convienience of popping a cup in and throwing it out well worth the cost of the prepackaged cups which taste great and come in a large variety. Two cups a day cost $1.50 and no time.
If I'm having people over...I just make a pot.

    To each his own!

I personally use the Eko Brew:

Have one as well. Much easier than the filter sent with the brewer. I just fill it with my fav grounds and just like a reg k cup in the brewer it goes. Wash it out and refill when needed.

If you want to support a local (Ohio) company, you can purchase Folgers & Millstone coffee.

The Apple Cider is pretty damn amazing (especially mixed with a little captain morgan). I'm also a fan of the Newman's blends.

I'm buying a Keurig when I get back to the states. I'm dying for some good coffee. The ship coffee is terrible!

Most of the time I drink the Caribou in the large (80 count) box from Sam's. $40, so it is 50 cents a cup.

I also love Emeril's Big Easy Bold.
