Russian Protests

  • Dr Winston O'Boogie
I find it encouraging to see Russians take to the streets to express their displeasure with the current "regime" and with Putin in general. These people have been through a sad history over the past 100 years and deserve the chance to be governed by non-corrupted assemblies and leaders.

I can certainly undstand the populace's past reluctance to protest (most probably had relatives sent to the gulag). I hope they get the change they demand.

I am reminded of the words of John Rambo, "Without guns, you're not changing anything."

please, this country is so apathetic that we wouldn't take to the streets even if the internet, cell phone coverage, and American Idol were all taken off the air.

Really? Even with the supposed excitement that now President Obama brought to the past election, voter turn out was paltry compared to all those who were eligible to participate.

Even when you see groups like OWS and the TEA Party emerging I'm still betting the voter turnout will be less than 50% next election.

Yes, this country continues to be apathetic by and large.

Well, being that Russia is the largest country by land mass in the world, that it maintains the largest nuclear weapon arsenal in the world and that it is a major source of oil, coal, ore, and other scarce minerals, the rest of the world has a lot of reasons to care deeply about what happens there.
