The chip is about 1-1.5 inches wide, and maybe and inch tall. It's really not that big. I also got the case that use can use on your laces I think it's called Switch or something like that.

    Thanks, that actually does help.

I dismiss the Nike + because I believe most people purchase them because of the ipod feature, while possibly other better fitting shoes available, which may fit their specific needs.
I trust the experts first. If they recommend the Nike + over something else for my specific needs, OK.

It is big and bulky, ya run the risk of dropping it, if the weather isnt great ya can get the Iphone wet and such. Also, running is a great time to untether oneself, and to relax the mind from all of it. PLus, if you have your phone with ya there is that urge to check it or get calls and such. I know of people who have ran with their Itouch before and listen to music and such and really didnt like having that honking thing with ya.

    Just my half cent opinion.
I agree that I don't want to have to carry my iPhone in hand while I run. I would be worried about dropping it, shaking it too rigorously while I'm running, getting sweat on it, etc. Nor do I want to be bothered with answering a call, text messages going off, or Facebook/Twitter updates popping up every 5 seconds ect. But I am interested, however, in using it to plot my runs, graph my distances & times, help motivate/coach me on my workout routines, etc. If I had it my way, I would be able to simply set my phone down and run while having all the metrics & stuff logged. Hopefully that's the sensor part.

Plus, I can't just "run." I need to listen to music or watch TV in front of me. Just me, personally.

    .
    Bingo.

I already have a quality pair of running shoes (Nike+). I need the incentive/motivation to run more than 2-3 times a month, and I'm thinking (hoping) that this Nike+ thing will give me that. Being the tech guy / numbers guy that I am, I think it's a cool idea tracking my times, distances, scoring "points" to reach/unlock goals, etc.

How big is this "chip", I hear that you can just put it in your shoelaces.
The chip is about the size of 2 quarters, 1 standing ontop of the other. (aka, not that big)

GPS watch does all that too. Plus I program different workouts on the watch, diff alerts to keep me within a range and such. I always use my run to of course get in shape physically but also a time to just get away from a phone ya know. On saturdays I like to run home from work, about 6 miles total, and dont get back to town until sunday evening to get my car so I pretty much have to bring my phone with me and it bugs me! I usually turn it off but still the mental part of knowing that damned thing is on my side drives me nuts!

Believe you me...I am a numbers guy too. I track mileage, pace, intervals on runs, diff pace for diff distances, everything like that. First thing I do after I run is record my stuff and I love to analyze and see the improvements. The watch can be hooked to a computer to do alot of stuff but I do it all from just the display.

On races I set alerts to go off when I am too fast, or too slow.

All good! I just recommend if you start to have any pains "owies" in the foot, back, hips or shins.....consider going to a running specific store. They will evaluate your feet and if a pronation issue that needs addressed.
Also if interested, many awesome websites and app's for smart phones which include training logs, route mapping and other features.

What is your short and long term goals scarlet, since tracking times and distances?
(if interested in talking training, shoot me a pm) Just don't listen to that wacko coach 609.

Short term goal? To lose approx 15-20 lbs.
    Defi
Long term goal? To become more fit - i.e., increase my cardio level and [not necessarily "ripped," but...] lose the "flab" I've developed/put-on.

So far I've used Nike+ GPS for 2 walks. It's HIGHLY accurate [and I'm very please]. Tomorrow I am heading to the gym and plan on using it with the treadmill. I'm anxious to see how the built-in accelerator works without the GPS functionality. I purchased a sensor too but it sounds like I really don't need it. I'm contemplating returning it [if I can find the receipt].

I'm definitely interested in talking training. Feel free to PM me with ideas/suggestions/etc.

    Thanks!
